"We had a water line burst in our home and needed to test for and remediate any mold found. David was friendly, on time, and did exactly what he promised he would. Very fairly priced. Would recommend to others and use again."

"Frank and Joe did a fantastic job mitigating the mold in our basement crawl space. It was a tough job, and they worked hard. There are lots of ways to try and remove mold. But if you donâ t do it rightâ ¦ most of them just seem to make the mold bloom more. The Failsafe team knew their stuff, and were able to mitigate and remove the deep set mold in our crawl space to look and smell like it was never there. They also worked with us to ensure it never comes back. They are very thorough and kept us well updated on their progress as they worked. Would highly recommend."

"They were very professional and took care not to track in any dirt in and out of the house.  After cleaning out  vents, they showed us where we had some mold and rust.  They recommended "mold remediation" which was approx $2,600.  We were unsure whether to do it, but based on fact that we have lived in house for 12 years and the house is 60 years old had it done.  Can't really comment on the quality of that work or whether we really needed it.

"Since it was a test for Asbestos I really cannot review the work quality. I had to wait one day longer than promised to get the results over the phone and one more day to get the report per email. But all together it was much faster than I assumed it would take from reading other reports. Therefore I am very satisfied with the company and would recommend it."

"They were very professional, on time, courteous and very respectful of my home. The company is very good at covering my furniture with plastic. The workers are very mindful of my items which is great. They cleaned up after themselves. Considering that chemicals include in cleaning process, they wear masks and make sure everything is good and the price is fair."

"James worked tirelessly. His diligence led to the discovery of other problems and full remediation. Although the job turned out to be 4 to 5 times the size of the original estimate, he fit us in to clean it up in short order and kept the cost more than fair."

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

Both an air purifier and a dehumidifier can help prevent future mold growth, but neither can remove existing mold. An air purifier will improve air quality and trap mold spores in the air, whereas a dehumidifier will reduce moisture in the environment. Keep in mind that you need to make sure your air purifier uses HEPA filters, which are rated for mold removal.

It is not advisable to stay in a house with black mold. Exposure to black mold, or any mold, can lead to health problems, especially for vulnerable individuals such as children, the elderly, or those with weakened immune systems. Black mold produces mycotoxins, which can cause respiratory issues, skin irritation, fatigue, and headaches. If black mold is detected, it is crucial to evacuate the premises, seek professional help for remediation, and only return once the area is thoroughly cleaned and confirmed mold-free by experts.

Wood stain is not considered toxic after it dries. The solvents in wood stain are what give off volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are toxic, but these dissolve as the product dries, leaving behind a non-toxic product. When working with wood stain, you should always wear a respirator and rubber gloves to protect yourself, but once it dries fully, it’s not toxic, according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Many types of mold spores and fungi spores are constantly present in the air, but they need a friendly surface and moisture to grow. Should some of these spores land on paper or wood with significant moisture present—such as drywall with a paper cover that is soaking up water from a leak—mold or fungi could begin growing. Dampness from leaky pipes, condensation on windows, leaks in a roof, flooding in a basement, or high, prolonged humidity in a small area all can create the excess moisture that mold and fungi need to grow in your home.

Certainly, DIY mold tests are not perfect when trying to determine whether you have a mold problem. They could give you a false positive reading, or they may fail to detect mold that’s behind a wall, especially if the infestation is still small. Ultimately, you should seek a mold inspection if the DIY test gives you a positive result, just to be certain. And if the test is inconclusive, it’s probably worth seeking an inspection from a pro.
