"Some initial prep information was a bit lacking in detail, which caused rescheduling of work, but went well after that. Insulated crawlspace that was severely lacking insulation from cheap & crappy house builder (HH Hunt). Foam insulation on sides/walls & certain posts/beams, 10 mil drymat on ground, sealed off vents. Workers friendly & professional. Bit pricey but noticeable improvement soon after finish...floors were not cold in certain areas as before."
Unsealed porous foundation walls. Efflorescence has grown along the outside walls.
Plastic is laid out to protect the freshly pained walls and floor.
Open vents in the foundation walls allow outside air and moisture to infiltrate the crawl space, increasing the relative humidity and allowing mold spores to thrive inside.
Spray foam application in progress on warehouse walls.
The dirt floor is exposed, which will allow the moisture from the earth to rise uncontested into the crawl space, adding to the increase in relative humidity.

"Shane and his crew were awesome - removed a ton of old, nasty insulation from the attic of our investment property. Left everything spotless. Extremely competitive pricing. We will definitely use their services again."

"Insulating a crawl space is incredibly expensive (especially for a space that hardly anybody ever sees or goes into), but they did a good job and it has helped in keeping the pipes warmer in winter and reducing damp feeling inside the house."

"The decision on who to choose and what to install was a very difficult one for us. It’s not everyday that you are faced with such an expensive decision. Every HVAC dealer out there has a different opinion on the type of equipment (size, brand, efficiency, etc.), and every homeowner seems to have a different experience with the equipment regardless of the brand. Ultimately it was the 10 year LABOR warranty that made us choose York. No other manufacturer offers a direct labor warranty (I called all the major brands), and based on our past experience the labor warranty was a no brainer. We chose Automatic Climate based on the competitive price, the existing relationship, Angies List reviews, and their initial visit with us. The install and system startup went very smooth. The lead technician stayed, directed, and helped until he knew the guys had everything they needed, including using his leaf blower to ensure they knew exactly what lines to move to the new trunk. He also remembered the little things like insulating the new drain line. The other guys were great as well. They were happy to answer questions that I had on the new system, and they were just personable overall. They were careful not to bang up any walls and really did a nice job cleaning up. I plan to use Automatic Climate again when my 10 year old downstairs unit dies. Nice job, guys!"

"We used Affordable Crawl Space Care for vapor barrier and insulation in our crawl space. We had an excellent experience in all regards. The installation was done well, completed in a timely manner and for a fair price. The owner was knowledgeable, professional and the process was efficient. I am giving the highest recommendation."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Yes, doggie doors, like all entrances, can let both hot and cold air into your home. However, as with any door in your house, you can take steps to weather-strip your pet's entrance to prevent air leaks.

Monolithic slabs don’t require insulation, but many homeowners choose to have their contractors install insulation under the slab during construction. This can help improve home efficiency even more and keep indoor temperatures more stable. Slab foundations are more energy-efficient than uninsulated crawl spaces and basements, and insulated slab foundations are more energy-efficient than insulated crawl spaces and basements.

There are many reasons one bedroom may be hotter than the rest of the house. The sun will quickly heat a south-facing bedroom with a large window, especially if it lacks quality curtains. If the room has poor insulation, this could let more warm outside air in. Upstairs bedrooms are often hotter than ground-floor rooms because heat rises. Finally, rooms further away from the air conditioning unit may heat up a lot if the system is not properly balanced.

If the outside temperature drops below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, it will take around six hours for your pipes to freeze—and they might even burst. That’s why keeping your mobile home’s temperature around 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit is necessary, even if you’re leaving it vacant for the winter. In addition, having ample skirting around the mobile home's underbelly will help keep pipes insulated during the winter.

The life span of insulation is between 20 and 100 years. At that time, existing insulation can fall victim to gravity, resulting in compression, which reduces its insulating protection or R-value. If you can't simply add more insulation over the existing material, removing the old to increase the effectiveness of the new can reduce your energy bills and make the project worth the time and money investment.
