"Ralph Bertrand from Home Genius Exteriors came out to thoroughly examine our roof. Ralph showed us many photos & a video of our roof, outside & inside. Ralph took the time to answer any questions we had. He explained the various products used & levels of warranty available. We really appreciated the time Ralph spent explaining everything to us, all without pressure to buy. The day of install arrived & the team was on time & ready to work! One thing we liked was that there was someone there from Home Genius Exteriors during the whole time of install. Richard Bowan, the Install Manager, was there to oversee everything & he did an amazing job. They placed large tarps over all our landscaping & got right to work. Rich kept us updated on progress throughout the day & answered any questions we had. In addition to the new roof, we also had new gutters with leaf guards & downspouts installed. When the work was completed, we walked around the house with Rich. Everything was completely cleaned up; there was nothing left behind or out of place. Our home looks amazing. The new roof, gutters & downspouts really look beautiful. We loved our experience with Home Genius Exteriors, especially working with both Ralph & Rich. They were so professional & knowledgeable. We would recommend them to others & if we needed additional work, we would definitely call Home Genius Exteriors."

"The job went well.  We needed to encapsulate the crawl space because the hardwood floors we installed in December of the previous year were cupping, both above the crawl space and in our sun room, which was built on top of an existing deck. The reason we elected to go with The Drying Company was they offered options based on our needs rather than a set package.  For instance, rather than telling us that we needed a 20ml liner, they offered a 12ml liner, which was a more reasonable cost and our crawl space did not need a 20ml liner. They also offered spray foaming the crawl walls rather than foam board.  They also recommended on their own we consider spray foaming underneath our two sun rooms to better insulated the floors and help reduce the moisture content of the sun room wood floors.  The lead time to start our project was 3 weeks.  They estimated it would take 3 days to complete the project.  The first team arrived as planned and cleaned the crawl space of debris and the old 6ml barrier and then installed the new 12ml vapor barrier.  The next day was to be the foam insulation work, however, the foam truck needed an inspection and the work was moved back a couple of days.  Once the insulation work started the job was quickly completed.  When the existing plywood was removed from underneath the two sun rooms, several boards were broken and replaced with new ones.  They removed all the old boards and cleaned the area.  The only negative was when they replaced the plywood it was done wrong and needed to be trimmed with a cable saw which was not a clean cut.  The company also provided a wireless hygrometer to monitor the temp and humidity in the crawl space.  Since we encapsulated the crawl space the humidity has stabilized from the mid 60% to 40% and the temperature is around 65 degrees.  We are running the dehumidifier at 40% until we can see the cupping in the hardwood floor relax and the boards go back to their natural state."
Unsealed porous foundation walls. Efflorescence has grown along the outside walls.
Plastic is laid out to protect the freshly pained walls and floor.
Open vents in the foundation walls allow outside air and moisture to infiltrate the crawl space, increasing the relative humidity and allowing mold spores to thrive inside.
Spray foam application in progress on warehouse walls.
The dirt floor is exposed, which will allow the moisture from the earth to rise uncontested into the crawl space, adding to the increase in relative humidity.

"Matt Epperly was very professional and new about insulation for our crawl space. He came and went under our house and took pictures. We did not know about the mold which he showed us. He made the suggestion of the spray foam and the Friction-fit rigid foam board door panel to be installed behind our existing crawl space access door. Spray Foam in crawl space rim and band joist for air-sealing and insulation. He also mentioned before the foam insulation spraying anti-microbial solution on all crawl space wood substructure. We were also told we would get free a Wireless Hygrometer. It displays the temperature and humidity both inside your crawl space. It was all accomplished in a few hours. They informed us for our protection to leave the home and come back. Everything was done neatly and no mess left."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Yes, insulating your cold water pipes is a great way to prevent condensation. When warm, humid air meets cold pipes, condensation forms, which can drip and cause moisture issues in your home. Pipe insulation acts as a barrier between the warm air and the cold pipes, keeping condensation at bay and helping you avoid potential problems like mold or structural damage.

While freezing pipes are less of a concern in warmer climates, pipe insulation can still be beneficial because it helps prevent condensation on cold water pipes, reducing the risk of moisture-related issues like mold growth. It also helps maintain water temperature, reducing the energy needed to heat and cool the water, which can ultimately lower your utility bills.

Yes! Outdoor faucet covers work by enclosing the faucet with a thick, insulating material that will keep the faucet warmer than outdoor temperatures. They need to be sealed tightly against the house to work properly, though, so be sure to tighten the rubber strap or drawstring on the insulation cover to best protect your faucets.

Yes, usually you will need some kind of vapor barrier on the exterior walls when the framing is attached to concrete and masonry surfaces.

Ductwork sweats due to a temperature difference between the air inside the ducts and the surrounding air, similar to how a cold drink develops condensation in the heat. This sweating is a sign that your HVAC system is not operating at peak efficiency. The best way to keep ductwork from sweating is to wrap it in proper insulation, which also improves your system's energy efficiency. Another option is to close off your crawl space and install a dehumidifier to dry the air and lower its dew point.
