In-Home Furniture Repair, Craftsmanship and Integrity, (804) 704-5263. Serving Richmond Williamsburg Corridor. We come to you with pickup and delivery, full restoration shop!!!!!

"The one star reviews calling out unprofessionalism are spot on. Jason pulled through a stop sign in his box truck and cut me off, flipped me off, and laughed at me as he drove away, even though I and the other car in the road coming the other way both had to slam on our brakes to avoid hitting him. I got the number on the side of the truck to report unsafe driving and pulled over to call, not knowing the owner of the company was the one driving. I barely got out the words "one of your trucks-" when he started yelling and cursing at me saying "That was me, douchebag! What do you want, douchebag?" I tried submitting a complaint to Weathersby Guild in Atlanta and they never got back to me. I feel like posting publicly about this incident is the only path left to try and have this flagrant disregard for safe driving addressed. I can't speak to the quality of the actual repairs, but with how he drives I expect those damaged items, claims of fraud, and additional repairs/up charges mentioned in other reviews to be a regular occurrence. Do not trust this man to transport anything you value, or to be professional/courteous if he doesn't get his way."

Hi, I’m David Pastran, Owner of River City Upholstery LLC in Chester, VA. Upholstery is a longstanding family tradition and personal dream of mine. My family owned an upholstery business in El Salvador for 20 years before the breakout of the Civil War forced us to relocate in 1980. Together, we endured a treacherous trip across Mexico into to the United States under refugee status. There, I was raised in Long Island, NY until I was 12, before we moved to Virginia. At 20, I joined the United States Marine Corps as a food subsistence specialist and proudly served my country for eight years. Doing so allowed me the opportunity to travel around the world and get to know many diverse people and cultures. Today, I am a proud father of two boys, a business owner, and a full-time student John Tyler Community College. The key to my happiness comes from serving others, resulting in my passion for helping the community. Starting a business cannot simply be about money; its foundation is strongest when it is based on purpose and meaning. My goal is to launch an apprenticeship-based upholstery program aimed at high school students with ADD/ADHD, and adults returning from addiction rehabilitation or prison, in developing a practical new skill set.

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

Doing your own upholstery work is possible, but it’s typically a better idea to leave the work to professionals. Without experience and the proper tools, it’s difficult to get a professionally finished appearance for your furniture, and many DIYers end up spending money on tools and materials only to hire a professional when they can’t get the fabric to look right. If you have reupholstery experience, feel free to give it a shot. However, if you’re not confident in your skill level or you’re working with antiques, it’s worth the money to hire a pro.

DIY upholstery is feasible for simple pieces with the right tools and skills, though intricate jobs typically require professional expertise for the best results.

It is possible to reupholster directly over old material in some cases, and it can save you a bit of money. If you are going to go this route, make sure you use a darker color than you had previously. Otherwise, you might see the old fabric beneath the new material. You should also keep in mind that reupholstering over old material is only possible with certain materials. For example, reupholstering over leather usually isn’t possible. You can ask your professional to see if this is an option for your piece.

On average, the cost to reupholster furniture is about $720 per piece. However the price range to upholster a piece of furniture varies widely from about $380 to $1,150 or more, depending on the material type and availability, repairs needed, and the complexity of the project. Fabric costs typically range from $50 to $70 per yard while the cost of labor runs from $40 to $100 per hour.

The best way to test the quality of a leather couch is to put your hands on it. If the upholstery is soft and warm, that’s a good indication that the quality is higher. It should also smell like traditional leather. If it smells like chemicals, you’re probably dealing with low-grade leather.

By submitting this question, I acknowledge and agree that Angi may publicly display my name, city, state, and question on the website for professionals and others to see.
