"Hired Weathersby Guild to refinish a 30 year old dining room table with lots of water stains and gouges. The two craftsmen who came to my house knew furniture restoration. The final product was better than new! Would highly recommend thiscompany to anyone looking for furniture restoration."

"Great service! Highly recommend. My husband sat on the arm of our sofa and it broke in half. He was in and out in no time. Had it looking like brand new!!"

"Very polite. He asks questions to verify what work he is asked to complete. He keeps a clean work area. Jon fixed sloppy work from a prior contractor. Arrives on time or early. Prices are perfect in my opinion. Comparing to current subcontractors that I have received quotes, Jon is a portion of thier quote. I have a handyman for life."

"Mr Delgado has a natural instinct for restoring furniture to its optimal appearance. He is an artist. He repaired a pair of huanghwali northern hat chairs for me, and then I sent them to auction and they made $25k. He has restored a series of other pieces of furniture for me, and I don't believe it would have been possible to do better. He restored a Renaissance revival server for me, and I gave him its mate in gratitude. He picks up and delivers, all with an old-world charm that you no longer find in his business."

"I was in town only for a short period of time to visit a family member and provide some assistance to her as she is a senior citizen. Her carpets desperately needed cleaning and I only had a few days to identify a company and have the work done while in town. I contacted Royal Residential and they were able to work me in (on a Sunday) to accommodate my tight schedule and to take care of my family member's need. The work was done with excellence and carpets look brand new. My family member was thrilled and thankful. I highly recommend this company. The work is of top quality. Professional, excellent integrity, and strong Christian values. Thank you!"

"I was overly satisfied with the cleanliness of the property. There were no problems or issues with the cleaning or the workers. I was aware that my location wasn't very close to them, therefore I admire the dedication that they gave to travel here and I applaud them for the outstanding job they did. It was overall an easy and smooth process and defintely plan on calling them for any cleanings I need in the future!!"

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

It is often worthwhile to refinish or restore furniture, especially for high-quality, older, antique, or sentimental pieces. Older furniture tends to have better durability than modern, mass-produced items, and refinishing can cost about one-third of the price of replacement. To determine if it's cost-effective, compare quotes from local refinishing services with the price of a new, similar piece. Refinishing can refresh a piece's look and extend its lifespan. However, it may not be worth it for newer furniture made of medium-density fiberboard (MDF) or plywood, or for items with major structural damage. A professional can help you assess the piece and decide on the best course of action.

Pros cover many fixes, from upholstery renewals to joint reinforcement.

Costs depend on fabric choice, furniture size, cushioning, and labor. For significant projects, expect estimates between $350 and $1,200.

Paying to reupholster a piece of furniture means you want to hire the right upholstery service, especially for a piece that’s expensive or carries a lot of sentimental value. In your search for the right upholstery company, be sure to:

  • Ask around to see if friends or family know of any upholsterers

  • Find reviews of the company or individual

  • Look at the photo gallery of their work to see if they work on furniture like yours and if you like their work

  • Check qualifications and references

  • Ask the upholstery service if they work on furniture like yours, what their schedule looks like, how they handle payments, and how long the job will take

The time required to reupholster furniture depends on the item's size, complexity, and condition. The hands-on work can range from 2-3 hours for a simple dining chair to 10 to 20 hours for a large sofa. The total project timeline with a professional, including fabric sourcing and scheduling, typically ranges from one to three weeks.

Several factors can affect the timeline. Antique furniture often takes longer due to the delicate care required. If additional repairs are needed, such as sanding or refinishing wood components, the process will also take more time. A DIY reupholstery project will usually take significantly longer than a professional job.
