"Very pleased with the work that was done. The crew was very professional, considerate and cleaned up afterwards. The trees were between the houses and Butch was very careful as to where the branches and trunks would land after cutting. The job was done in one day."

"Josue and his crew were amazing! Cut down a very large magnolia tree in the back yard that was very near the house. They had all the proper equipment, operated very efficiently and safely. Did an exemplary job of clean up after the tree and roots were gone. I highly recommend Beauty Meister Landscaping & Tree Service."

"Thank you to the hard working professionals at Scott Lane's Tree Service for their excellent work on my project. I initially requested estimates from different tree services through "Angi", and received some estimates. Scott Lane's Tree Service was one of the companies that gave me an estimate. We initially discussed the type of work that I wanted done over the phone. A crew member came out, went over all of the details, and gave me a written estimate that day. On the day of the project, a full crew came out and got the work done within a few hours, which included clean-up of all debris. They did a very thorough job on four tall pine trees which were overgrown, growing over the roof, and reaching power lines towards the street behind the house. Two live oaks, which had grown together, were separated, thinned-out, and shaped. A mimosa tree and a mulberry tree were cut back from the house, and from over the driveway. Deadwood was also removed from the two. I highly recommend your company. Thank you again for a great job!"

"This is a fabulous tree service! Their team is made up of skilled, knowledgeable workers. They removed three large trees from my front yard, removed all the wood and shredded all branches. They provided Stump and root grinding plus the removal of ground mulch. These young men are not only ethical professionals, but proper and polite. it's been a pleasure meeting them. I highly recommend this service!!!"

"Scott Lane's Tree Service earns every bit of a 5-star review. We had 9 massive pines within 20 feet of our home, AC unit, shed, fence, plus power and phone lines stretched between two houses less than 100 feet apart. Zero margin for error and real liability if something went wrong. Scott was my higher quote (not by much) — ABSOLUTELY worth it. In business since 1987, he knows his craft inside and out. He walked the property, sized up every tree, explained the rigging, crane placement, & removal plan clearly, & I was sold. They brought a crane and serious equipment — all owned by Scott — and lifted huge sections straight up and out with incredible precision. Watching it was honestly terrifying, but the crew was calm, controlled, and completely professional. Four straight days of hard work, even in cold rain. Three hours of meticulous cleanup at the end. Other than the trees being gone, you’d never know they were here. You get what you pay for. Cheap tree work comes with real risk."

"I did not request an estimate from Josue Tree Services (JTS) because they are in Newport News & I thought I'd get a quicker response from providers on the Tidewater side. Angi notified me that JTS was interested in the job, so I reached out. I am so glad I did. He was very accommodating, & was willing to come provide an estimate after I got off work at 5:00pm. The fact that he was willing to deal with tunnel traffic impressed me. He was very personable, and willing to do the job for a reasonable amount. Initially I just wanted a tall gumball tree cut from the front yard, & a large mulberry tree out of the backyard that could only be accessed by a small gate. I ended up asking him to clear an area at the back of my property that was overgrown & needed several small trees removed. He was more than willing. He was able to schedule me for the same week. He and his team were punctual, and respectful of my property. They started at 7am & were done by noon. Very happy with the job they did."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Whether you grind or dig up and remove your tree stump depends on your landscaping goals. Using a stump grinder leaves the root system in place for it to decompose over time, whereas digging up the tree stump removes the roots and the stump. Overall, stump grinding is a far simpler process since you won’t need to deal with the roots. Stump removal will make your yard look like a demolition site, but you’ll have an easier time replanting in the same place as your former tree.

Pruning is an effective way to prevent a diseased branch from infecting the rest of the tree. If the infection isn’t caught early enough and the pathogen has spread to the trunk or the majority of the branches though, it is too late to prune off the affected areas and you’ll likely need to remove the tree.

Yes, it’s possible to overwater a newly-planted tree. Daily watering is great for the first few weeks, but it’s important not to go overboard. Excessive watering can lead to various problems, including root rot, fungal diseases, and a lack of root development.

No, you cannot plant a tree above a gas line. Tree roots grow and spread over time and can sometimes dent, crack, or penetrate a gas line. Those same roots may also cause accessibility problems for maintenance or repairs. You can generally plant vegetation with non-invasive root systems, low-growing vegetation, and flower beds near gas lines.

Tree borers are difficult to control and remove once they make a home in your tree. However, with patience and determination, some methods can slow the damage or even eliminate the pests. But, once the damage is too much for the tree to handle, the only solution becomes removing it. Talk to a tree specialist early for the best chance at saving your tree.
