"Absolutely awesome service. The owner himself came to our rescue on a Saturday. We had no water from our well. It was a pressure pump that needed replacing, He worked on it most of the day, fixed it, and arranged for one of his employees to come out on Monday to change out water heater elements. We’re so grateful to him. Don’t know what we would’ve done."

"I really want to thank the owner and the team of Virginia/Carolina Heating and Cooling. The team did what the owner said they would do. One of the best experiences I have had in years doing business with contractors. The team arrived and got right to work ensuring the work was completed in a timely manner while at the same time respecting my home and property. If you’re thinking of a new or upgraded HVAC system look no further than Virginia/Carolina Heating and Cooling...As we say around my neck of the woods...”Why bother with the rest, when you can hire the Best!” ...and the Best is “Virginia/Carolina Heating and Cooling”.....Thank You for reading....P. "James is by far the best HVAC guy around! We are super pleased with his fast response and great work. We felt we were in good hands right from the beginning! He was very respectful of the house, extremely knowledgeable, explained things thoroughly, and the cost compared to others that I have hired in the past was very reasonable. I appreciate that he isn’t one of those guys who will immediately try and get you to get a new unit; he will track down and fix problems that others have found difficult, which is the case for us. Thanks for saving us $4500 dollars James! Without a doubt we would recommend Air Advantage to all our friends and family! You won’t need a second opinion if you call Air Advantage first! Trust me, You won’t be disappointed."

"

The guys that showed up were great, very friendly, and ready to answer any questions I had.  They did their work quickly and cleaned up afterwards.  They also got me an extra discount on the repairs.

There were no high pressure sales pitch or scare tactics used.    There was no bait and switch or 'limited time offers'  to push the sale along.

The front office person I dealt with could have made more of an effort.  The day of my repairs, I was called and told the Credit Card Machine was not working, so I would have to pay by check, or my appointment would have to be changed to another day.  I was then called back after several minutes and told that a post-dated check would be acceptable if funds were not currently available.  I understand that the Credit Card System was being changed over, but there should have been some thought put into this before calling anyone.

The B for responsiveness is for the front office, not the workers.

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Running an air conditioner with mold is not safe because it can spread harmful mold spores throughout your home. Exposure to these spores can trigger various health problems, including respiratory issues, allergies, coughing, wheezing, sneezing, itchy eyes, and a sore throat. It may also aggravate asthma in household members. Continued exposure can increase the risk of more serious illnesses like sinus infections, pneumonia, and bronchitis. If you suspect mold in your air conditioner, you should stop using the system until it has been properly cleaned to avoid health risks and further contamination.

A common HVAC rule is that for every 500 to 600 square feet of living space, you need 1 ton of heating or cooling capacity. Now that you know this common rule, you also need to know that it isn’t very accurate, and a dedicated pro wouldn’t use it for your home. If you talk to a pro who won’t or can’t perform a proper Manual J calculation, consider hiring someone more thorough.

The outdoor portions of air conditioners are designed to weather the rain, so you don’t need to worry about it. An awning or roof will help protect them from snow or falling debris, which can do more damage. This is true of both window AC and outdoor units for larger systems.

Aside from needing HVAC repair, there are times when you may need to replace your unit. HVAC replacement costs $5,000 to $12,500. Here are some telltale signs that your HVAC unit is going bad:

  • Your unit is 10 years or older.

  • Your home is very humid.

  • The unit keeps cycling without producing cool air.

  • You need to repair the unit frequently.

AC drip pans last five to 20 years, depending on the material. Plastic AC drip pans last five to 10 years, while metal pans can last over 10 years. Plastic AC drip pans are vulnerable to cracking in response to temperature changes. Metal drip pans are prone to rusting over time, which can also lead to leaks.
