"We had an air conditioner freeze in out attic. It resulted in water damage on our ceiling as a result of failed safty switches designed to prevent the pan from overflowing. Shield came to our rescue. They were very friendly and extremely professional. Very neat work and a complete clean up after the job was done. The damage was so completely repaired that you would never know it happened. We are delighted that workers of this quality are there for us. If anyone needs drywall services or painting, please look no further than to Shield."

"The painting team did a great job of prepping, priming and painting the roof. I had a list of repairs to complete on a home inspection that needed to done in just a few days. They helped repair places on the siding, and interior drywall. The team came on Saturday and returned on Sunday to finish everything and did an outstanding job."

"I do not do heights and our 2 story foyer needed painting along with some drywall that had been dinged up from moving furniture up the stairway. I was extremely pleased with the exemplary care that Alex took to fix the drywall and then paint the walls and molding. If you need a job done right then I would most definitely recommend J&I Home Improvement."

"Troy worked with us and our two neighbors to provide a good price for installation of a patio and sealing of two patios. We did not have to wait weeks or months for them to begin work and we have exactly what we asked for. We requested a stamped concrete patio that looked like brick, and it looks better than expected. Troy is very responsive to any requests or issues. We are very pleased with patio and the value for money."

"Mike replaced drywall in my closet ceiling from a leaked roof in excellent fashion. He was efficient, so much so that I had him look at my basement where I need some new drywall added to complete one of my projects I had started, but he completed both at the same time (it was considered a second job)! Mike is a friendly person, reasonably priced and I wholeheartedly recommend him. I have added it him to my private list of favorite contractors."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Depending on the place where the cutting error occurred, you may be able to fix it. Learning how to patch a hole in drywall is challenging, but if you can tape and mud drywall, you can do it. Having said that, patching is time consuming. Early in the installation process, you may find that it’s easier and far less time consuming to just start over with a new sheet of drywall, cutting a new hole in the right spot. You may be able to use part of the incorrectly cut piece elsewhere, so it’s not completely wasted.

You can put drywall mud over paint to even out the surface or entirely resurface it. Sand the surface with 280-grit sandpaper, vacuum the debris and dust with a shop vac, and clean it with a slightly damp cloth. Allow the surface to dry. Apply drywall primer, especially if you’re skim-coating an entire wall. Apply the right type of drywall mud over the surface and smooth it with a trowel. Allow the layer to cure fully, then sand it before applying another layer or painting it.

When choosing materials for finishing basement walls, consider factors such as moisture resistance, durability, and fire resistance. Opt for materials specifically designed for basement environments, like moisture-resistant drywall or cement board. Insulation with vapor barriers can help regulate temperature and prevent condensation. Consider using mold-resistant paints or coatings.

Research and consult with experts to select materials that are suitable for your specific basement conditions and intended use. Prioritize quality and compatibility to achieve long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing results.

While certain types of textured walls can seem dated (looking at you, popcorn), textured walls are a common sight in both older and more modern homes. The main reason textured walls may be here to stay is that they are an excellent way to hide minor imperfections on a wall and give it a finished appearance. Some homeowners think a coat of paint on drywall is a bit industrial-looking. However, that look works perfectly in modern home design

Yes, you can install drywall over plaster, but there are important factors to consider. While it can create a smooth, flat surface, it is often not the best approach. Installing drywall over plaster will increase the wall's thickness, which can cause issues with existing window and door frames that may no longer fit. You might also need to adjust power outlets to keep them accessible. A better, though more expensive, option is to remove the old plaster and lath entirely before installing new drywall. Drywalling directly over plaster seals in the old material, and if any problems arise later, you will need to remove both layers down to the structural beams for repairs. Given the potential complications, this job is best handled by professionals.
