"Randy Hudson did a great job of repairing/replacing a rotted deck post on my dad?s deck.  He was very good at assessing the damage and work necessary to correct the problem.  He was good about explaining the process to us so everyone understood what was to be expected.  Randy was very friendly and completed the work as planned and scheduled.  He also did a great job of installing new lattice for the deck skirting as part of the project.  I thought the price charged was fair and reasonable and we have asked him to give us an estimate to pressure wash and paint the deck and other house trim.

"Skyline Design quoted replacing my entire HVAC system (Heat pump, propane Furnace). From selecting and ordering the new equipment, to install, everything was great. They gave me three options in equipment brands and outlined all the pros and cons for my wife and me to understand. They did the install in one day as promised. The price that was quoted is what I paid when the job was complete. The guys cleaned and picked up after themselves. Everything works great and I would recommend this company for any home improvement projects."

"Dale did a fantastic job touching up our home and repairing the drywall in our bathroom. We would highly recommend him. His rates were less than half the price that Paint Genies quoted me. The only small complaint we would have is that we made a check out to J&D painting and he informed us that he didn't have a buisness checking account (which we found odd for someone who says they are licensed and bonded). We had to rip up that check and write him a different one in his name. Either way, he did a great job and we would have him back in a heartbeat if we needed him."

"I inherited a property that had been used as a rental and neglected for a very long time. I hired Karnes Landscaping to cut down 3 trees and to trim the neighbors walnut tree that has been growing over the roof for many years. Price was super reasonable even when the job turned out to be bigger than expected. The crew was friendly and William has also been helping me brainstorm other ideas in what to do with the rest of the landscaping on the property. I would definitely recommend."

"The crew took everything down and put everything back in the proper places after painting I have a lot of pictures and I like to have all my pots hanging where they are easily reachable also my food prep machines out on the counters. The crew did not ask a single question. They are a pleasure to have in your home. they left things as they were except I had a new paint job which was excellent. The crew also washed down my cabinets in the Kitchen and they look like new."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Some elevated decks require stairs that lead to the ground level per the local fire codes in some municipalities. In other regions, a staircase is an optional feature that can increase accessibility and convenience for homeowners who want ground-level access to their deck. Additionally, a staircase is necessary if your home doesn't have an existing door leading to the deck.

A deck doesn’t have to be perfectly level. Many pros even recommend a gentle slope to ensure proper drainage and increase longevity. The ideal gentle slope is about 1/8 to 1/4 inch per foot away from the property, leading water away from the home to prevent pooling and reduce the risk of damage. It also minimizes rot, mold, and other moisture-related problems.

Yes, you can draw your own deck plans in many cases. However, you must know your local building codes and be familiar with carpentry principles. Even then, it's always best to run your plans by a professional contractor with experience building decks, whether you choose to DIY some of the build or not.

Covering your deck with a breathable tarp can protect it from snow, ice, and cold winter temperatures. This is a good winterizing solution if you don’t plan to use your deck at all during the colder months. However, it might be best to skip the tarp if you’ll still be walking on your deck or using it in a limited capacity.

Whether to paint or stain a deck depends on your personal preference for appearance and budget. Stain provides a natural look with a range of undertones, is typically less expensive, and may only require one coat, but it does not last as long as paint. Paint offers a sleeker finish with a virtually unlimited color palette. Both options will protect your deck from outdoor elements like rain, snow, and general wear and tear.
