First of all, we had no idea from the sales pitch or contract that the work would not be done by Sturdevant employees themselves, but subcontracted out to independent workers. We would never have chosen this company had we known this as there is little opportunity for accountability or quality control. Nahum himself gave us his personal cell phone number on sales pitch and immediately, before actual work began and we had problems with the worker not showing up when he said he would, Nahum would never answer his phone or return our calls. We quit trying to reach him after 3-4 times. On the sales pitch we were verbally told numerous times there would be no "extra charges". By the second day of work the contractor was complaining about the additional layer of old wall tile and plaster that had to be torn out. We were charged an additional $1000 for a day of labor. On sales pitch we were told a licensed plumber and electrician would do those jobs and address any problems they found. Instead, the bathroom tile worker did all of that to a much lower standard than we wanted. See "Issued" below. Issues: 1. The new light fixtures and outlets were patched into old wiring in the wall. New wiring to the panel should have been installed but that was not "in the contract." We even offered to open the wall downstairs to do this since we were renovating that in July but no go. 2. The bathtub drain line was installed too low for the sewer water to flow out by gravity. My brother in law had to re-plumb that. Fortunately we had torn out the first floor bath ceiling to discover that. 3. The diverter for the shower was installed improperly, or the part chosen by the contractor is the wrong part. The pipes are plumbed probably to the wrong connections behind the new tile wall. Upon complaining about this the supervisor later offered to tear out our hallway closet to get to the pipes but we didn't want to ruin our antique built in closet. The supervisor did not follow through nor did we even want them to come back. The diverter works but just not properly. Shoddy work. 4. The bathroom vent fan which we put in the contract was an ongoing issue, mostly resolved by my brother in law. 5. The new wall board was not cut to fit snug to the the window or door frame, with 3/4 inch gaps left. I discovered this when I painted the bathroom myself. 6. Upon "completion" we discovered the main sewer line from the new tub and toilet was clogged when we had guests for a week. A call to Sturdevant did nothing, I had to hire my own plumber to come snake it out from the roof vent. Sturdevant did not offer to reimburse me for that bill. 7. Midway through the job the contractor left for a weekend with the diverter unsealed so we had no hot water in the downstairs bathroom or kitchen until he returned on a Monday. 8. Our own plumber ended up doing a good bit of work that we had thought Sturdevant was going to do but the worker did not have the ability. Now I know that as any job goes along these kind of issues arise and you solve the problems in consultation with the homeowner. I felt we were very flexible and understanding but the response from the "home office" often felt rather hostile. A few times we had to let them know strongly we were upset but rather than resolving the problem quickly we got "put off" and had to call our own plumber to resolve things. I wasn't going to write up any of this and complain last summer at the end of the job but now, in 2016 when I am compiling all my financials for tax work and seeing what we paid, I am recalling the experience. They never did come back to resolve the final issues but I was also rather unwilling to have them come back and make things worse. Again, we have a nice looking bathroom. But had we not ourselves fixed the problems or had we not known what the problems were, this bathroom could have been a disaster. So, pretty obviously, I do not recommend Sturdevant Construction.

That was the start of my day at 5:30 and going into the utility room I saw that the hot water heater was leaking a steady stream into the emergency drain pan. I turned off the water supply and then got onto Angie?s List to find a plumber. I called Fitch Specialties and left a message and had a return call from the owner, Tim, within 15 minutes. I explained the situation and Tim was at the house later that morning. He arrived in a large van which contained all the supplies needed for the job ? including several water heaters. This allowed him to work without once leaving to run and get supplies or part. To jump to the end: we had a new tank-less water heater installed and working before Tim left that same day! We?d rather be without power than without hot water so we were very pleased! Tim did an amazing job and an incredible amount of work without assistance (other than me cleaning up some water and such) and without taking a break or leaving the house. Start to finish he worked to remove the old, busted water heater and install the new tank-less one. This entailed running a new gas supply line (thankfully the incoming gas supply was right there at the utility room) and removing the old exhaust assembly. Tim was able to put the new exhaust assembly into the old, existing hole through the wall ? which saved time and saved me from having to worry about yet another hole in the wall. Tim ran new piping and got the water running again the same day. This is our 3rd water heater, and our 1st (and hopefully last) tank-less. We?d recommend calling Tim Fitch of Fitch Specialties when you need help with plumbing. He?ll certainly be the first one we call in the future.

We mentioned we needed a couple of the ceiling vents replaced and were meaning to head out later to get the replacements, but he had a couple of the needed vents in his truck and provided them for us at no extra cost. If we had just gone with the clearing of the drain, it would have only cost us $89 ($59 if we used the Angies list coupon), but he mentioned their annual maintenance plan, which was an amazing deal at $150/year with 15% off parts and labor, so we went with that today and the $89 for clearing the line was included in the $150. There was also no extra fee for a Saturday call. We had been using a different AC service for years, but we like this one soooo much better. :) "},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/va/virginia-beach/advantage-heating-and-cooling-inc-reviews-273067.htm"},"position":7},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"D & I PLUMBING HEATING & AIR INC","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"VA","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Richard B."},"reviewBody":"I called Dand I for a clogged main drain. FAQs for french drain service projects in Hampton, VA
Landscapers typically charge $25 to $50 per person per hour, which equals around $50 to $100 per hour for a two-person crew. These rates can vary depending on your location, the size of staff needed for the job, and overall job type. For example, a larger crew will be needed for structural additions and hardscaping versus planting flowers.
When it comes to landscapers, licensing laws vary. Landscaping architects are required to be licensed in all 50 states, whereas traditional landscaping contractors are not typically required to hold a certification. You’ll likely be working with a landscaping contractor for most residential projects. If you are redesigning your whole yard or adding in hardscape features, you will work with a landscaping architect at some point during the project. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local landscaper guidelines.

The cost to install a drain pipe is $600 on average, but the total can range between $150 and $2,000. Some cost factors that influence your project price include the type of drain, the area’s accessibility, the proximity of existing drain lines, and whether you’re installing a new drain or replacing an old one. Replacing the p-trap or s-trap under a single fixture will usually cost around $150, while replacing a main drain pipe can cost well over $2,000.
Yes, most states require plumbers to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.

We highly recommend leaving the work of replacing drain pipes to a professional plumber. Drain pipes are a key part of your plumbing system, and making mistakes during the installation or even using the wrong size pipes for your specific fixture can lead to an elevated risk of leaks and clogs. Additionally, drain pipes prevent harmful sewer gas from entering your home, so hiring a professional plumber is essential to keeping the risk of leaks and clogs low and avoid reducing your indoor air quality.
