The job included designing/redoing our frontyard bed, installing downspouts, building a 330 square foot backyard patio bordered by a dry creek, installing natural stone steps leading up to the patio, and designing/executing new backyard landscape beds. Our backyard - which is on a slope and not a huge space to begin with - looks out onto a shared driveway. Given that, my wife and I struggled with how to create a sense of privacy in our backyard without having a fence installed. Of all the professionals we met with initially, Ben, our Project Manager and Connor, who did a lot of the design work, had the clearest vision of how to get it done. Both were mindful and in tune with what was important to my wife and I. Both were creative in working within the parameters of our space to deliver what is in my opinion, the very best job that anyone could have done. - Avec Construction IncWe spoke with several contractors regarding our existing deck, which is over 30 years old and was not well built. We wanted something that would require no maintenance and last at least that long. We also wanted a walkway from the steps of the deck to a 16x16' patio. When we first met with Kati, we were struck with how much time she made for us. While she was there to review the existing condition and take notes to produce an estimate, she described different materials, design changes and quickly assessed our existing structure. We went through several possible designs and asked for a proposal with several possible options. We selected Avec's proposal as we felt it was the best value for the price. As work began, the workmen were prompt, reliable and courteous. They didn't leave any debris or remaining materials. The deck and new patio they built was really spectacular. Really beautiful design elements. Small details like post selection, a delicate lattice work under the deck and a lighted steps (on a timer) were really nice touches. The patio and 10' walkway was nicely installed and the materials were top-notch. I cannot say enough about this company--really a pleasure to work with and we are loving this new part of our house

"Initially, great responsiveness. Work went according to plan. Even one hiccup was quickly remediated. One piece of wall art was damaged. It happens. I identified leaking in shed roof immediately below upper deck as work was ongoing and asked them to address it. Got nodding agreement. Project was finished with no further word. Called again after a few months and asked them to look at roof. Was told they don't do such work, though they build decks and sheds. Got feeling its a matter that they don't want to do it. Sorry, otherwise thought it was a successful engagement.

"We hired PHS for a new deck project. From the initial sales meeting to final inspection/closeout, PHS did an amazing job. Clint was friendly, informative and a pleasure to work with. He clearly communicated timelines, costs, etc. During the project, he stopped by regularly to ensure the work was on track and to our liking. "Rick and his Before and After Home Improvement “All-Star Team” provided outstanding professional work in replacing the water damaged posts supporting my deck and the design and work to complete a stamped concrete patio, walkway, and front porch. Our property sits on a hill such that water from our neighbor’s yard drains into our own with some of it settling against our house under the deck. The deck was constructed about 20 years ago with part of the wooden posts buried in the ground. Although the wood was pressure treated, over time, the marshy ground had compromised the integrity of the deck support posts. We had contacted several contractors to request proposed estimates. Some were unresponsive. Others would not fully address our concerns about correcting the water drainage and adding additional concrete to anchor the new deck support posts above ground. Rick was by far, the most responsive. He listened to our concerns and based upon his 45+ years of experience, provided several recommendations for correcting the damaged deck posts and the drainage issues on our property. He gave us a prompt and reasonable estimate. His team went to work right away. We were so pleased with the results that we discussed the idea of the patio and walkway. Again, Rick listened to our ideas and provided excellent recommendations to move us to a beautiful design. Upon contract award, Rick’s team went to work immediately. Rick himself visited the site on a daily basis and communicated with us on the progress. When we suggested some changes, he was very flexible and responsive.
