"The move was seamless. The moving crew (Travis, Mart, Kenny & Justin) were very professional and got the loading and unloading done quickly without any damage to the goods or the house. They were also very accommodating to requests for moving some items within the house. The original estimate I got from David was within 5% of the final cost, and there were no hidden fees/costs. The communication from the local office (Kellie) on scheduling and payments was very good. Highly recommend this company for moving and storage!"

"My mother needed to move from her home in Fredericksburg to be closer to me in Falls Church. She hired A Plus Moving to pack and move her, and also to move some of her furniture to my sister in Bowie MD, Mother has hired professional movers 11 times for both long and short distance moves. A Plus provided the best service of any of the movers she has used. They were very professional, courteous, efficient and considerate. Everything was well packed and came out undamaged. They were efficient. The building my mother moved to has a very short time frame for move in. Everything was moved in the required limited time frame, even though they had a very full truck with an enormous number of boxes and lots of furniture. They were careful with her furniture, wrapping the furniture on the way out and unwrapping at delivery. In addition, they were very polite and respectful to my elderly mother. I would absolutely hire them again and highly recommend them"

"I was told movers would have straps, furniture covers, and tools. None was provided. I was lucky to have tools available myself. My doors had to be removed to move some items out. One door is still off. Since no covers or straps were provided, it made the removal of appliances a struggle. And my dryer is all scratched up. Since no tools were provided, it took longer to get the job done. (My tools were already at the new house.) Since everything took longer, I was charged for the extra hour. I really expected better. Also, 2 of our tools are missing."

"It went very smooth! The movers didn't procrastinate or take brakes like the last moving company I hired. Which I feel like saved me money because they weren't purposely running the clock up. I was actually surprised that they moved and unloaded my fully furnished 2 bedroom apartment in two hours considering nothing was take apart or broken down! And nothing was broken or scratched!!!! I definitely will recommend them to anyone looking to move. Overall I was very satisfied and happy with their services."

Piano Moving questions, answered by experts

The most expensive part of moving is hiring professional movers. However, hiring a pro is more efficient and less stressful, so many people find the cost worth it. You’ll also spend a lot of money on packing supplies, including boxes, tape, and bubble wrap, so ask around to see if any friends or family members have old supplies you can use for free.

Pool tables are exceptionally heavy, some weighing as much as 2,500 pounds. As a result, they require multiple movers to move, and because of their size, it's difficult to get them upstairs or around tight corners. You can save money on pool table moving by using your own packing supplies and disassembling them before movers arrive.

When loading a moving truck, the general rule is to load the heaviest and largest items first to create a stable base at the front of the truck, which helps balance the weight. You can start with large furniture like sofas, beds, mattresses, and tables to form a solid foundation, or begin by placing your heaviest boxes against the truck's walls to create a base layer. After the base is set, continue loading other large items like appliances and square furniture. Lighter and smaller objects, including most of your boxes, should be loaded last. They can be packed into gaps, around, and on top of the heavier items to maximize space. Following this order makes unloading easier and helps prevent damage to your belongings.

No, homeowners insurance does not typically cover moving expenses. Homeowners insurance provides coverage and pay-outs if you experience damage to the home you currently live in. You’ll need to save separately for moving expenses like hiring movers, renting a tow truck, or shipping your belongings.

Most professional movers can provide a wide range of moving-related services, and you’ll need to pick and choose which ones you want to use. Examples of common services offered include the following:

  • Organizing and packing your belongings

  • Protecting delicate items with bubble wrap or other protective equipment

  • Moving your belongings and furniture out of your old home

  • Moving your belongings into your new home within a certain distance

  • Unpacking your belongings in the new location

  • Moving heavy items, like pianos

  • Moving your vehicles

  • Storage if your new home isn’t ready
