"I had gotten 3 estimates on replacing a wooden 4 rail fence surrounding my 2 acre property. Erik from Chesterfield Fencing was the last one I talked to and was very thorough on the products and procedure. Presented me with a high tech type estimate/quote. I'm impressed how the company has invested in such a beneficial program but doesn't seem to affect the cost of the job. 1st company (recommended by long time friend) estimator/owner had me hold tape measure in between an electrical storm (two houses in my area got hit by lightning in that very storm and quote was hand drawn not to mention they were the highest $!) Jacob came out to show me a sample of the aluminum fencing I had asked for when company #2 lowered the $ to meet Chesterfield. We discussed where the fencing materials come from and history of the company. As a former small business owner I respect that they are as well. While the project was completed, the experience was deeply unsatisfactory due to both subpar workmanship in highly visible areas and the highly unprofessional and belligerent behavior of the owner, Javier. ​Issues with Professionalism and Communication ​Javier is exceptionally challenging and argumentative to work with. His communication was defined by open hostility, sarcasm, and dismissal of customer input. ​Argumentative and Dismissive: He was openly hostile to basic customer questions and input. When questioned, he repeatedly reminded me that he had "been doing this work 10 years," using his asserted experience to dismiss any concern or design preference I had. ​Rude and Disproportionate: When I politely requested an itemized receipt, his immediate, disproportionate response was: "Jesus Christ you told me at my earliest convenience. I'm working on it. I've been busy." This established a tone of disrespect for the entire engagement. ​Excusing Poor Quality: When a flaw in the completed work was pointed out, Javier’s response was, "you get what you pay for," suggesting low quality was justified despite our agreed-upon contract price. ​Contractual Obligation Treated as a "Favor": He treated the small, agreed-upon extra job as a personal favor rather than a commitment under our contract. ​Critical Workmanship and Material Damages ​The structural work was adequate, but the final, highly visible details suffered from poor execution and damaged materials. ​Poor Workmanship: The final detailing includes uneven cuts and poor finishes in prominent areas. ​Material Damage: We noted several critical material damages upon final inspection: ​Cracked stair post tubing. ​The hand railing running down the stairs is badly scratched. ​A new white handrail has a noticeable black stain on the bottom. ​Conclusion ​Had Javier been willing to engage respectfully, I might have been able to overlook minor imperfections. However, his belligerent attitude, combined with noticeable flaws and material damage, makes this unacceptable. ​I now require that all noted issues, including specific poor workmanship and material damages, be corrected immediately or that I be reimbursed for the cost of professional repairs. Due to Javier's conduct, A Home Renovation LLC has lost any opportunity for future projects I had planned. I strongly advise others to look elsewhere unless you can handle the disrespect."
