"I’ve been really pleased with Palencia Masonry. They’ve done quite a bit of masonry and concrete work for me at this point. They built a nice brick planter bed in front of the house, replaced some old cracked concrete sidewalk and completed some much needed repointing on our old house in the fan. They’ve been responsive and done high-quality work. Highly recommend."
"Scott Newsome did a great job on our brick walkway (which was in really bad shape). We were really flexible with timing, and Scott was great with communicating to us what timing would work for him. It worked out perfectly and we are so pleased with the work - he went above and beyond. Afterwards he advised me on what I could do to extend the life of my brick and what the best products were to use on it. I would recommend him to anyone looking for masonry work around their house. He really knows what he is talking about and his price is very fair."
"We had erosion under our outbuilding. We thought we could take care of it ourselves. After more than a year of continued erosion, we gave up and called Traditional Masonry! They were out to our house the next day! The concrete footer went right in the first day. The second day required some relocation of some dirt piles we had near the work site. On the third day, we had a beautiful new retaining wall! Things I liked: 1) The speed with which the work was done. 2) The skill with which the work was done. 3) The cleanliness of the workers. The place is cleaner now than before they came. They left no trash for us to clean up. 4) They did not smoke while on our work site. 5) They didn't play loud music while working. 6) They did everything they said they would do exactly when they said they would do it. It's hard to find a contractor who can meet all these criteria....But Traditional Masonry does! I highly recommend them and will use them again for some more masonry projects we have in store."

There are many things to look for when buying a brick house. Here are some of the key things you should pay close attention to.
Lintels: Look for cracks, holes, displacement, or corrosion
Mortar: Check to see if the mortar is old and crumbling, in need of repointing, or new. Also check to see if the mortar has a professional finish.
Walls: Check along each side of the house. If a wall is bowing outward, this indicates a severe issue such as foundation damage or that the walls are ready to fall.
Cracks: If there are stair step cracks in the brickwork, this indicates an unstable foundation.
Yes, you can limewash surfaces other than brick. Plaster, stone, stucco, and concrete can all also be limewashed. Any porous surface that will absorb the wash is a good candidate for limewash, although it won’t help much with waterproofing. If you choose to limewash over paint, you’ll need to prep before applying it to avoid a powdery, chalky finish. Shiny surfaces like metal or glass can’t absorb limewash, so it’s not suited for these.
Brick houses can last at least 100 years with minimal maintenance. With regular care and attention, including mortar repointing, brick houses can last 500 years or more.
Whether you’re installing brick siding over a traditionally-framed home or you’re using genuine brick construction to build, the biggest downside of a brick house is the higher cost you’ll pay for the materials and labor. Real brick construction also means your home build will take longer, as it’s more time-consuming to construct brick walls than it is to frame out your home.
Some older brick material is extremely hard, making it tough to create a hole. Rather than using a typical wood drill bit, always use a masonry drill bit when drilling into brick. For extremely hard brick, using a power drill with a hammer function may give you better results. The drill bit will heat up as it goes into the extremely hard brick, so you may need to stop after a few minutes and allow the bit to cool before starting to drill again.
