"My wife and I got several quotes for putting up a fence in our backyard. Fencing must be a competitive industry, because most of the quotes were in the $4-5k range. Although Good Neighbor wasn't the lowest quote we received, a combination of Angie's List ratings and Shane's professionalism gave us the "warm & fuzzy" feeling that they were the right company to go with.
Good Neighbor took care of arranging for the survey, and for the power company to mark the lawn for underground power cables. The survey revealed something we were afraid of - that the sweet gum tree in our back yard was right on the property line. So, we had to get over the hurdle of getting the tree removed before we could move forward with the fence. A few weeks later, we got the tree taken down on a Friday, and on Monday morning the fence started going up.  Unfortunately, at some point during the tree removal the survey posts on one side got taken out, so they had to get the surveyor to come back out. The surveyor came out that Wednesday, and by that time everything but that last side was done, so they had the whole fence finished by Wednesday evening. There's a ditch that goes across the yard, so on Thursday morning they came out and installed some welded wire there to keep the dog from getting out but still allow water to flow freely when it rains.
Good Neighbor did an awesome job with the fence, and Shane was great to do business with throughout the whole process. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone in the area looking to put up a fence."

Welding questions, answered by experts

Welders use a variety of methods in their trade. Different types of welding are better suited for different purposes and contexts. For example, stick welding is a versatile form suitable for most metals and alloys. The most common types of welding include:

  • Stick welding: $100–$1,000

  • Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding: $250 and up

  • Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding: $250 and up

  • Gas welding: $150 and up

  • Forge welding: $15–$25 per hour

There are a few things you can ask welders before you hire them to get an idea of their experience and ability levels:

  • Are you licensed and certified?

  • How long have you been in the welding business?

  • Do you commonly do the type of welding I need?

  • Do you offer any kind of warranty for your work?

  • Do you charge by the hour or by the project?

  • How long do you expect my welding project to take?

  • What steps do you take to minimize errors in your work?

Cutting rectangular ductwork requires careful measurements and the right technique. Use a measuring tape and pencil to mark the cutting lines accurately. Tin snips are excellent for straight cuts on smaller ducts. For more extensive or thicker rectangular ducts, a reciprocating saw with a metal-cutting blade is effective.

Ensure the duct is well-supported and secure while cutting to prevent wobbling and maintain precision. After cutting, use a metal file to smooth any sharp edges, ensuring safety during installation.

Yes, but you’ll need reliable steel-cutting tools and safety gear to get started. Shipping containers are typically around ¾ inch thick, so it’s entirely possible to cut through them, but experience and the right equipment are very important. When possible, try to get a container as close to the size you want it as possible.

To maintain custom or fabricated metal structures and extend their lifespan and appearance, perform regular cleaning, apply rust prevention treatments, and use protective coatings.
