It's possible to paint over paneling without sanding if you use a primer that masks defects and provides a strong base layer for the final coat of paint to adhere to. You can paint concrete with paint rollers. In fact, using paint rollers is considered one of the easiest ways to evenly apply paint on concrete. A paint roller with a 1/2- to 3/4-inch-thick nap—which is basically a fabric paint roller cover—is best for painting concrete. The thicker the nap, the more paint it can hold to fill those pesky concrete cracks and crevices.

When applying multiple coats, wait four to six hours for each coat to dry. Not waiting long enough can result in streaks, peeling, and uneven color. Plus, it will be more difficult to discern where the second coat has already been applied.

Some caulk alternatives, such as silicone putty and spray foam, can be painted over once they have cured. However, sealant tape and caulk strips cannot be painted. Always check the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure the product is suitable for painting, and use the appropriate type of paint for the material.
