"We had a great experience with the Lux Renovations and Owens Corning team. The whole process was very easy from designing the space, selecting colors, and having a contract manager who organized the entire basement remodel including all the trades and inspections. We were sold on the Owens Corning materials for the basement and that they were engineered specifically for a basement space. Would highly recommend this team for your basement remodel needs."

"Sean Wright was always professional, prompt, courteous, friendly, and very helpful. I was not sure of some things I wanted to do and Sean made suggestions of various options I had not thought of, then talked through the pros and cons of each idea until I came up with a decision of what would work best for me and what I wanted to accomplish. This was invaluable in helping me manage the costs. The work he and his team did was excellent quality and they cleaned up every day before they left, and made it as easy as possible for me to live in the house while it was being renovated/remodeled.
The subcontractors were also good for the most part. The plumber and HVAC people were competent and completed their work in a timely manner and the pricing was reasonable. The cabinet maker was excellent. He built custom kitchen and bathroom cabinets to my design and measurements and installed them for less than half what Lowes had quoted for similar cabinets and they look great.
The electrical contractor, Kennedy Electric did good work but the price was twice what I had expected and took months longer than it should have.
I would not hesitate to recommend SLW for any size construction or remodeling job. I will be contacting them again later in the summer for some work on the exterior of the house. "

"It was wonderful working with Chris/Castlewood. They worked weekends, late night, extreme cold weather and pouring rain to make sure that the only bathroom in my home was functional. Chris understood my needs and kept the budget under control. I come from a building background and this house restoration has been a long-term, partial do it yourself project. I've hired other service providers in the past and was never happy with the work done, often having to hire new contractors before finally giving up and doing the work myself.
Chris/Castlewood is the first time I have been pleased with a contractor/service provider. Chris understood my willingness and desire to do certain work on my own and also understood the constraints of my skills and adapted his own scope of work to keep me involved. The cost of the work was exactly what I expected. No surprise invoices that doubled and tripled the prices quoted by past (fired) contractors.
I will be using Chris/Castlewood for all future projects in the house. If the floor replacement and kitchen remodel I'll be doing later this year turn out half as well as the bathroom repair I'll be an extremely pleased owner of a restored antique home."
"Amanda was really very good! At first I was very skeptical, thinking why did I pay money to just speak with someone on the phone about my kitchen remodel project... but after just a few minutes of her addressing some of the issues/questions I emailed to her earlier, I knew it was worth it. It was very clear that she knew her business and she gave me several ideas that I had not even thought about. I told her that I would definitely recommend her to friends and I will very likely use her again myself for my next home project!

Overall, I was satisfied with the work. The crew were great about cleaning behind themselves. They were polite and very respectful of our home. The entire project took about a month longer than we anticipated but some of that was justified because the contractor had been ill. When he was feeling better it started to move along a little faster. I want to say that I am thrilled with the end project in the kitchen. It is exactly what I wanted. The bathroom less so, but overall I am satisfied. The quality of the work was great!
The areas I gave a B rating were punctuality and professionalism. My reason for the punctuality is the fact that the crew would show up usually anywhere from about 9:30 to 10:00 AM. Then they usually left about 4:00 PM, sometimes a little later, sometimes earlier. My point is I never knew exactly when to expect them unless I specifically asked.
Professionalism was graded a B - When we started this project I was asked to sign an agreement/contract with Mr Palumbo that obligated us to the project through completion, including the schedule of our payments to him. In turn, he gave me a spreadsheet that he said would be kept updated and be a 'living document' throughout the process that would keep us both honest. I thought this was a great idea. The original spreadsheet was the estimate of what he thought the project would cost breaking it down into two areas, one for the kitchen and another for the bathroom. What I understood and expected was that the spreadsheet estimate figures would be replaced by the actual costs. The end spreadsheet I received was just like the beginning one. It still had items on it that he did not do and did not include some things he did. The end project came in about $5000 over the estimate. Some of this was due to changes we made and some were necessitated by things that come up when you remodel and old house. Maybe this all worked out in the end, but the point is without the actual costs on that living spreadsheet, I really don't know,
Also, I want to reiterate that I would most definitely us Tom Palumbo again for a remodel project. He designed a beautiful kitchen for me. I think that may be his specialty! The bathroom is beautiful too but the kitchen is my dream one! This is what he promised and I think he delivered.

Renovation enhances functionality, increases home value, and can add new space for personal or family needs. It typically modernizes older unfinished basements for new uses.
Yes, you can add a bathroom to an unfinished basement, but you’ll want to take proper precautions if doing so. As with any bathroom addition, you’ll need to make sure that it’s approved by local building authorities first. With unfinished basements, you especially need to keep an eye on proper ventilation practices.
Making a window in a basement larger costs an average of $4,200. You’ll need to pay an average of $550 to have a structural engineer plan the project, $500 to $1,500 for the installation labor, and an average of $2,200 for the excavation and window well installation. The remainder will go toward pulling permits, installing trim, and repairing drywall on the interior.
Anything having to do with the structure of your home, such as raising the ceiling, is usually the most expensive part of finishing a basement. Another project component that could be a surprisingly high expense is adding an exterior entrance.
If your basement ceiling is low, there are ways to raise it. Learn more about the cost to raise a basement ceiling to be able to enjoy your basement and create a more usable space in your home.
