"Geary was quick to respond and came out quickly to assess the situation and give us an estimate. He scheduled the project quickly too, and his crew finished it on schedule according to the proposal. The price was not cheap but competitive with other plumbers in the area. I would highly recommend them for water line replacement."

Small jobs welcome

"I had a large sewer line replacement project. Tree roots had broken into the line and completely blocked it. I had 3 plumbers try to snake the line with a camera and all 3 could only get so far due to the roots. I was pretty scared of the scope of the work because we had no way to tell if it went out to the street or not. Out of all the estimates I received, I felt best about the team at 1Stop. It was clear that they did work in my neighborhood (Ballston) and that they knew exactly what the problem was and how to treat it. They were able to give me a flat rate for the job, which no other estimate could do. Came out to the house and had the entire job done in a single day. Price was very fair and their expertise was unmatched. If you need a company for a sewer line replacement, you should absolutely reach out to them."

"Could not have been better! The two-person crew arrived promptly every day (actually a few minutes early), worked efficiently, and cleaned up after each day's work. The quality of the work is outstanding. Each day the owner, Mr. Munoz, came by at least once sometimes twice to inspect the project. If something was even less than perfect, he directed adjustment. The result is a beautiful new kitchen that was very affordable. Would I hire again? Absolutely. In fact, this is the second project in my home by the company and I'm looking forward to several more."

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

No. You should never directly drain a water softener into a sewer cleanout. This practice is illegal in many areas because it could allow raw sewage to get into your drinking water and make you seriously ill. Many places have codes requiring a specific seal, pipe, and a large air gap between a water softener and a sewage cleanout. Check out Florida's Plumbing Building Code as an example of what these restrictions might look like.

Yes, and no. Your shower, toilet, and sink all connect to the same main drain, but the secondary drains going from each fixture to the main drain are usually separate. This isn’t always the case—especially in older homes—but since toilets contain black water and showers, tubs, and sinks have grey water, toilets are more regulated and come at a greater risk of contamination. It’s best to keep these drains separate using individual waste collection for this reason.

To install or move washer and dryer hookups, you will likely need a combination of professionals. A plumber can handle the water supply lines and drain pipes. If you have a gas dryer, a plumber certified for gas lines or an HVAC specialist will be needed to run the gas line. An electrician is required to install the correct electrical outlets. For simpler jobs, a local handyperson may suffice, while a contractor might be needed for tasks like drywall repair for the new vents.

Most homeowners and many renters insurance policies cover the cost of damage from a burst pipe, as it is typically considered a sudden and accidental event. This coverage often includes not only the plumbing repair itself but also the cost to repair or replace other parts of your home damaged by the water, such as drywall and flooring. However, every policy is different, so it is wise to consult your insurance company to understand the specifics of your coverage and any potential out-of-pocket costs.

Yes, if you live in a climate with extended periods of frost or snow, it’s best to winterize the sink and avoid potential bursting. Similar to winterizing a garden hose, turn off your water from the source. Once turned off, open the faucet so the remaining water completely drains out. You can also pour a small amount of antifreeze down the sink drain so any trapped water won’t freeze.
