"Excellent on all fronts -- pricing, timely and high quality work, and level of professionalism. Mr. Rorer's estimate was the lowest of three bids I solicited, and yet his work was outstanding. Before doing the job, he came out on a Saturday to assess the area and prepare an estimate. After I accepted the estimate, we were able to work out a date within weeks. He arrived promptly, worked efficiently, and, most importantly, did great work. I'll definitely go to him for my next project!

"Contractor arrived earlier than scheduled and got straight to work.  Unfortunately the problem with the light involved more complex electrical work than I had thought so it was not fixed.  However, he did fix the problem I was having with the faulty lighting in the ceiling fans from my original request - I was using the wrong light-bulbs.  Go figure!

"Everything went very well. The movers were friendly and cordial and worked hard. They were careful to put things in the truck in the right order and got almost everything in in one go. With the help of my son the work was done in about 3 hours. Only once they were a bit overly enthusiastic and hit the ceiling with a cabinet they were carrying upstairs, but the damage was minimal. They removed hardware when needed and made sure things were put in the right places (I had labeled things with colored tape which helped). I would definitely recommend their service to my friends. It was a pleasure to work with them.

"Excellent! The guys showed up on time and were able to hang the fans in my dining room and master bedroom. I also had some cover plates on my light switches and outlets that needed updated. I would definitely use these guys in the future."

"I found out about Competitive Painters from a neighbor who uses them for home improvement projects.  So I contacted them initially about some cabinet work and light electrical work.  Their price was excellent compared to other quotes we received and the finish product was exactly what my wife and I were looking for.  Robert was awesome to work with and was very accesible.  He provided guidance and insight without being pushy.  So when My wife and I purchased a new home and wanted to do some changes to it, of course we called Robert.  He was able to work with us to not be intrusive, his crews kept the work areas clean during the process and we loved the finish product.  I have several additional remodeling projects that I intend to use Competitive Painters again for in the near future."

We hired Marshal to tear down an existing deck and build a new deck, add a patio and fire pit.  We sat down with Marshall and described what we were looking for.  Marshall took the time to understand our vision and give us suggestions to make our new deck, patio and fire pit even better.  Marshall is very detailed oriented and makes sure that he exceeds the needs and desires for his customers.  We signed our contract and started the process.  Marshall’s team arrived on the first day early and ready to get the deck built.  His team was very knowledgeable and professional throughout the entire build.  At the end of every day the team made sure that all of the trash was picked up and everything was organized for the next days work (when have you ever seen a construction crew do that?).  Marshall kept us informed on the project every step of the way.  The project was completed without a hitch.  Even when we added things to be done after they had already started.  Our new deck, patio and fire pit have greatly exceeded our expectations.  We will use Marshall and his team again, (in fact we are already starting to think about the next project).  If you want a contractor that takes the time to listen to your desires for your project, has a vested interest to  make sure that you are 110% satisfied with the work than Marshall is the man to call.

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

The most efficient ceiling fan height is 8 to 9 feet from the floor to the fan blades. For ceilings higher than 9 feet, a downrod can be used to lower the fan to the optimal height. This positioning ensures adequate air circulation and maximizes the cooling effect. Remember, fans should be installed at least 7 feet above the floor for safety.

The more surface area that a ceiling fan blade has, the more effective it will be at producing airflow. Therefore, a longer ceiling fan blade is the better option if you’re looking for more wind. However, a longer blade will consume more energy than a shorter blade.

To convert a ceiling fan to wireless, you’ll need to install a canopy module to access the lighting and fan controls. Many options are available, all of which help you control specific elements of your ceiling fan, so you have plenty of choices depending on your needs.

When choosing a mounting bracket, you have the option between flush mounts and downrod mounts. Flush mounts are the better option for low ceilings as they feature a lower profile. Downrod mounts are the optimal choice for rooms with high ceilings as they offer a pole that adjusts the height of the fan.

The number of blades for your fan poses both advantages and disadvantages. Typically, the more blades on a fan, the better the air distribution and cooling effect, but this also means that your fan will have more wear on its motor. For small rooms, three-blade fans should work fine. For larger areas like living rooms, four or five-blade fans might be the better option.
