Customers say: True professional

"Billy responded to my request for an estimate immediately and work was scheduled within 3 work days. O. Cooper was one of three estimates obtained and they had the most competitive price. They arrived on time and worked quickly, but efficiently. They prepped the area, removing weeds and trimming grass along the driveway. The quality of their work was excellent, they diligently filled multiple cracks in my large driveway. The sealant was applied evenly and thoroughly. They cleaned up the area before departing."

"Outstanding company. Shon provided an accurate estimate, exact start date/time and sent a professional crew to do the job. The crew modified my wheel chair ramp to ensure a smooth roll to the driveway. The worksite was properly cleaned and I was left with an exceptional 160 foot driveway! Thanks team!!! You are the best."

"He bailed out of the project without giving a reason. We submitted plans to get a grant for a permeable driveway. Driveway was to be removed;back yard regraded; retaining wall built; permeable paver driveway put in. We got the grant but then he backed out of the whole project. When I requested a reason why in an email, I got no response."

"We were excited that we found Mencia Concrete from the dozens of contractors we reviewed. Aldo Mencia, the owner, gave us a great quote and timeline to complete building a paver patio with a wall in our backyard. He and his crew worked tirelessly and completed the project on time. Moreover, they replaced the sod that was damaged around the outside of the patio during the construction with some of the old sod they saved. Our patio looks beautiful. We are so grateful to Aldo and his crew for a job well done."

"This was a very high roof on an old Victorian house. He understood the house and what needed to be done. He gave me a timeline and met it. I would definitely use him again."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

You should contact your driveway installer before winterizing a newly installed driveway. Winterizing it before the asphalt or concrete has fully cured can damage the driveway. But in many cases, you don't need to winterize a newly installed driveway anyway since it's likely freshly sealed and won't have much damage yet.

Instead of a set number of types, asphalt comes in variations designed for different needs. Some are categorized by temperature—hot mix, warm mix, and cold mix. Others are sorted by composition, like dense-graded, gap-graded (such as Stone Matrix Asphalt), porous, and mastic asphalt. There are also modified versions with added compounds like polymers, rubber, or emulsions. Instead of focusing on a number, it may be more useful to understand how contractors customize asphalt for durability, climate, and traffic conditions.

Three inches is a great thickness for a residential asphalt driveway that sees minimal to moderate traffic from cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks. However, a thicker driveway can better withstand the weight of a heavier vehicle, such as a trailer or a recreational vehicle. If you drive a heavy vehicle on a thin driveway, you risk cracking and damaging it.

DIY is not recommended due to equipment and expertise requirements. Professional services ensure durability and proper grading.

Yes, it is possible to pave over an existing driveway, but whether it's the right choice depends on several factors. If the underlying structure of your current driveway is still strong, concrete or asphalt resurfacing can be a cost-effective way to prolong its life. However, if your driveway has significant issues like potholes, deep cracks, or other inconsistencies, it is best to remove the old driveway and start from scratch. Key factors to consider include the current driveway's condition, the compatibility of the new material, the added thickness and height, and the necessary surface preparation.
