"I was so very pleased to have found David Lambert to work with as a contractor for the renovation of a condo that I had purchased David and his team consulted with me for a few months prior to the decision to contract with them. They were always available for a call or visit to answer the TONS of questions I had. Once they started the renovations , not only did they help me make many decisions that I didn't even think of , they remembered everything I asked for even in times when I had forgotten such as lighting fixtures and dimmer switches. David has vast experience in realty, contracting, and decorating . This helped me greatly with the esthetic in what I consider now, a "new" home. I can not say enough about his talent and caring to make things comfortable for you. below are some before and afters master bath and kitchen. See my gorgeous granite fireplace hearth"

"Sean and his partner Clarenceare very competent craftsmen dedicated to excellence and are like family, having known and worked together much of their professional life, and they higher and manage good speciality contractors. They encountered many challenges in the old construction which they resolved with resourcefulness and completely to our satisfaction. They are friendly and caring. The finished apartment is a work of art and we feel fortunate. In SLW we benefitted from a high-end builder but at an average price. SLW Construction has the high principles, competency, dedication and fair prices of small town businesses of the mid-twentieth century when quality of life was greater."

"We were very pleased with the job that was done.  Once the weather started cooperating, Troy and his son were here almost every day and had the job completed within the estimated time frame.  He was polite and responsive to all our questions and requests throughout the project.

"We got all we asked for and more from Huezo's Construction. Fair pricing, quality work in every way, promises kept, PLUS the job was done ahead of schedule. They say you can't have it done right, done quickly, and done affordably.... well with Huezos Construction, we hit the lottery and got all three!"

"The job went great! Livengood Electric went over and above my expectations for this project. This wasn’t the easiest project out there on sure but with Jake’s expertise he was able to make short work of the project. We have a new service panel do you provide us years ofTrouble free electrical service, and a new generator but when the power goes out! We couldn’t be happier! Thanks again Jake!"

"Chris from Castlewood Construction completed a horse barn renovation/expansion that had been poorly started by another contractor. He was up front with me from the beginning about the project. Because the job was not cut and dry, he did not quote a price for the whole job but gave me his hourly rate and supplied copies of the invoices for all the material. He and his crew worked very efficiently, kept me informed on the progress and listened carefully to all of my requests. Chris worked with me on everything I wanted, often supplying ideas for less expensive methods to get the job done. This was a project that other contractors refused to even quote and Chris got the job done for significantly less money than what the other contractors quoted. He was able to take what a previous contractor had made an absolute disaster and created a horse barn that was what I wanted and fits my needs. Had I started with Chris from the beginning, I would have been well under budget. I would highly recommend him."

Home Building FAQs, answered by experts

Yes, a home builder or contractor should have the proper licensing and insurance. Licensing requirements vary by state and municipality, but most states mandate that a builder holds at least a general contractor’s license. For specialized work such as plumbing, electrical, roofing, or sewage systems, individual licenses may be required, in which case the builder may subcontract the work. You can use Angi’s state licensing tool to review your local guidelines and confirm a builder's credentials. As you browse professionals, you can also look for the “Angi Certified” badge. This indicates the business meets our certification standards, which include passing a criminal background check, holding applicable state and local licenses, and maintaining an average rating of 3.0 or better.

Building a new home can be more expensive than buying an existing one, depending on the housing market in your area. Many homeowners still find that building a new house is worth the investment as they can choose the exact layout they want, as well as to choose their own floors, wall coverings, appliances, and finishes. If you live close enough to the build site, you can also stop by to check on the builder’s progress, which can provide some peace of mind that the project is worth it.

Local regulations dictate how big an ADU can be, and there may also be restrictions on the percentage of the main residence’s square footage an ADU can have. In most cases, an ADU must be smaller than the main residence, but check with your local building authority to confirm restrictions on ADU size.

Ultimately, a work warranty is only as reliable as the contractor you’ve hired. That’s why trust and reputation are such important factors, in addition to having a solid contract and confirming appropriate licensing, insurance, and bonding. When looking for a contractor, it’s a good idea to read online reviews and ratings to see what kind of experience past customers have had. Issues with your contractor can make for an unsatisfying renovation process, but a reliable contractor can make the process go as smoothly as possible.

Above all, the downside to building a new house is a longer timeline. You need several months to finish the build, depending on the supply chain and labor availability in the meantime. Building a home compared to buying one is also more expensive, both in the building process and when it comes to mortgage rates and property taxes.
