"Vaun and his team are fantastic! We had a Trex deck built three years ago by another contractor, but it started pulling away from the house and tilting. Silver Lake came in, fixed the problem, and now our deck is stable and beautiful. I highly recommend Vaun and Silver Lake for any construction needs."

"Marinda came to my home and was very professional and listened to my needs and concerns for my project. She even suggested options I had not considered that I loved. Her pricing was reasonable and I loved that she sent me a sketch of her ideas so I could visually imagine the finished project. She was the only one who did that and followed up a few times, but did not bug me. Definitely a good company to reach out to if you are considering a remodel."

Customers say: Quick response

"Superior service above and beyond the call. The young man who installed our rain gutter was of such an outstanding character that we would have been proud to call him our son. He actually took the time to put a 2" rise in the center of our 60' gutter and very painstakingly placed the ends so that the water would descend very efficiently. We are very happy with the results."

"They replaced our worn out wood deck railing with a new modern metal railing. The work was done well and they were easy to communicate with. I would definitely hire them again for a similar project."

"Project was to extend existing deck to enable a hot tub install. Included digging and pouring footings, framing deck, reinforcing joists, laying additional decking, installing 12x12 posts and railing. Dan was excellent in all aspects - clear communication, upfront pricing/quotes, excellent work. We decided to do this late in the season - Dan made it happen. Could not be more pleased with how it turned out."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Framing most homes takes anywhere between five and eight weeks to complete. You’ll need to account for inclement weather conditions, material shipment times, the number of crew members, and the weight of your materials. If the weather is too hot, wet, or cold for the installation, this process could take closer to eight weeks.

Converting a carport into a garage can vary in difficulty depending on its configuration, the condition of the foundation or slab, and its location relative to the house. The process has a lot in common with a home addition, but you can often skip non-essential finishes like fine flooring, trim work, or even drywall and HVAC. The conversion requires experience with drywall, insulation, and other building materials to ensure it’s done safely and correctly. While it might be possible for a DIYer with the proper tools and skills to do the work, it is a complicated and potentially dangerous job. If you’re new to basic construction, it's best to leave this project to the professionals.

Framing a basement takes three to five days, on average, when completed by a professional, though it may take longer for a larger space. Keep in mind this doesn’t include the time to complete the design, obtain permits, and install the drywall on the framing. On average, fully finishing a basement takes an average of 45 days.

Most of the time, you’ll want to use screws on your subfloor rather than nails. Nails can actually weaken plywood, whereas screws can easily penetrate without damage. They also form a more secure connection because of their shape, preventing squeaky floors and tightly holding the subfloor in place. That said, some contractors do prefer nails depending on the type of floor covering because they allow for more flexibility.

Framing with metal studs can be significantly faster than using wooden studs, provided you have some experience working with the material. While you can use virtually instant pneumatic nailers with wood, metal requires installing screws. However, because metal is lighter, straighter, usually comes cut-to-length, and doesn't require sorting for the best pieces, you can save significant time using metal instead of wood.
