"Zavala’s was the best stone/tile expert I’ve ever seen. He was professional from the very start. He was dependable, great to work with, did a lot of extra work from last minute requests and very friendly. Our project required 2 x 4 foot heavy porcelain sheets, mounted ten feet high. He did intricate work on windows, floor, and walls. He comes VERY highly recommended."

"Hired them again! First the floor upstairs and they did so good we hired them for the flooring in our kitchen. Now we hired them to replace our countertops with Quartzite. It looks amazing! They had to remove our old countertop and they were able to do it without hurting the tile backsplash even though it was on multiple sides of the counter. I can't say what a relief that was. Our home is a totally different place. It was so scary to make so many changes but they put a team together to help. Our Team: Paul (sales) was so fast to find us exactly what we wanted. Tara (Project Manager) coordinating a lot go make it happen! Sam / Salvador (installers) genius as I said and flawless work! Would hire these guys easily on our next project."

"I went with a local provider instead of Bath Fitter. I had received other recommendations others for Bath Fitters, that they had done good work, so they were one of our choices that we got a quote from, but I’m not going with them. The quote that they gave me, I believe was $2,500. They were prompt and they replied, things like that. Price was competitive, but the other one was better."

"I found the company online and asked for a quote for a tile installation. They were punctual at the time of the appointment, very professional to inspect the work to be done and they took the time to clarify all the doubts I had, regarding materials and cost, in addition to guiding my design idea and thus achieving the bathroom I expected. . Then when the time for installation came, they met the stipulated deadlines, a really detailed and very professional job, they even left the bathroom spotless, no trace of work, which has not happened with other jobs that I have done in my house with other companies. Highly recommended, prices according to what they promise, and I would definitely hire them again for other future projects. Something important to me was the confidence they gave me, that I would do well and my investment would not be lost."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Natural stone floors, especially pebble-style tiling, are one of the least slippery options for a shower floor. Natural stone has a texture to reduce slickness, and pebble-shaped tiles add more visual and textural contrast while reducing slippage. Vinyl tiles are also designed with anti-slip texture for added safety. If you have a slippery tile, be sure to add a grippy shower mat to reduce the risk of falls.

It’s important to leave a gap in the corner when tiling to allow room for tile expansion. Leaving between one eighth of an inch to one tenth of an inch is enough space.

Generally speaking, it is better to cut tile wet when using a fast-moving wet saw to reduce dust and chipping. However, tile can be cut dry when using just about any cutting tool. Dry cutting will result in a bigger mess and may increase the risk of chipping or cracking, but if you’re just making small cuts, dry cutting is a safe and viable option. Cutting dry also means you can apply tile grout sooner, so it’s better for rushed projects.

The tile spacing you should use will depend on the tile and where you’re installing it. Choosing the right tile spacers to maintain a consistent gap between your tiles is tricky. Generally, tile spacing shouldn’t be less than 2 millimeters on walls and 3 millimeters on floors because of stress relief requirements. Getting it wrong can result in uneven tiles and early repairs.

When choosing tiles for a shower floor, avoid highly porous tile materials, like those with a water absorption rating over 7%. Don’t use non-vitreous tiles, or tiles fired at low temperatures, because they will absorb more water. If you use a highly porous tile in the shower, the tiles can wear down faster, meaning they’ll need to be replaced much sooner.
