It went great! Some unforeseen problems arose during the process, and Kathy Young was very perceptive for what needed to be done. Kathy is wonderful to work with and is very skilled in her craft; she is a talented artist and treated my projects as if they were for her own home. This experience with Kathy Young of Young Tile Company restores my faith in contractors. She was clear in communicating with us, offered solutions. Her work was astonishing. She is an absolute artisan. I got 3 bids and hers was in the middle. Additionally, she sold us a few bottles of product to maintain our new marble floors. She restored our shower also. It was amazing to watch. Highly recommend this company.

Do not hire Young Tile Company. I for one never will again. The quality of Kathy Young’s tile work is certainly on par with industry standards, but her time and material charges are reminiscent of a money grubbing fly by night. Kathy charged me exorbitantly for saw blades and drill bits she used in my project which are typical tools of the trade carried by the tradesman at their own expense. Kathy charged me to correct her own mistake (insufficient slope in the shower floor) as if the extra time and mud she used to correct the slope was an agreed upon extra task done at my request. These kinds of billing shenanigans completely undermined my satisfaction in Kathy’s completion of my project. I started out feeling excited about my new shower and I ended up feeling “had”. If one chooses to hire this company despite this warning, just be be advised. Don’t look at Kathy’s bill. Just pay it.

"I am dismayed to read the customer review above, as this customer (1) never voiced concerns or issues over bids and estimates, (2) did not communicate dissatisfaction during or at the completion of the project; and (3) complimented me on the quality of workmanship during and after project execution. The customer also paid his invoice in full without comment or question. This customer was very hands-on and was overly involved while I worked. He frequently made very specific requests during execution of the job. I advised him that some of his requests were not technically sound, but he insisted I execute them. I informed him that this extra work would result in additional time and material charges. In the process, tools were damaged and work had to be reperformed. I charged the customer to recover the cost of time and material since he was advised of this in advance. This job was an unusual circumstance and this review does not in any way reflect the entire reality of the situation. My business includes not only tile setting, but design, planning, demolition, project management, problem solving and resolution. I trained in mosaics and mandalas in India and Tibet, apprenticed in the tile industry to learn the trade, and am educated in all aspects of business management. My rates are fair and commensurate with my skills, education, and training. I am a 4.5 star rated company with Angi and have been in business for over 25 years. I encourage you to look at reviews from other customers."

No the job was not done right. She was to fix the caulking in the shower and on week later the caulking was coming off. The job looks like she never did it.

"I responded to her the same day she reached out to me about her concerns. We spoke the following morning. I offered to come out that day to look and repair. She said I didn’t need to. She said she would contact me later if she wanted recaulking. I explained going in that I couldn’t fix the expansion of the walls, but that I could caulk the area. Area of clients concern was 2 caulk lines- less than an hour of work."

We are thrilled with our completed tile in our large kitchen. The craftsmanship and quality of workmanship is exceptional. We attribute this excellent job to the professionalism and competence of Kathy Young of YOUNG TILE COMPANY. Kathy’s excellent management of purchases and schedule allowed our huge kitchen tile job to be completed in a timely manner. Her attention to detail for the challenging work and continuous open communications with us insured that potential issues were addressed prior to beginning work. In our case,we remodeled our kitchen and the walls were an uneven disaster. She did an excellent job preparing the walls so they were perfectly level so that our tiles would outlast us. In addition, our kitchen was difficult because our ceilings are 12 feet high. So that meant she had to climb up and down two ladders all day long every day. She has amazing strength and athletic ability as that ladder work is really tough. I also want to address the integrity of Kathy. I would easily trust her in our home and she works tirelessly. In addition, she is very clean and tidy and when she leaves your home, she leaves it super clean! We thoroughly enjoyed working with Kathy throughout the entire project. Kathy provided us an exceptional experience. From the initial bid through material adjustments to the completion of the project it has been very easy to work with her. Kathy was AWESOME! She was great at communicating, punctual, very hard working, meticulous, and takes pride in her work -- no shortcuts that lead to poor results (at least that I could discern). I had the privileged of working side by side with her during part of the job so I could learn more about tiling. One time when I wanted to put in a bad tile (that I cut) behind the toilet, she refused to let me do it and told me to recut it. During a subsequent bathroom remodel job I did on my own in our new home, she was the muse in my head who I referred to when I ran into a problem and had to figure out what to do. She is extremely competent, and will give you a finished tile-job worth every penny she charges.

I'm happy to say my counter top looks new!

Kathy arrived as scheduled and gave us an estimate. It was well within reason and she arrived as scheduled and did a beautiful job. She had slate tiles laid out everywhere to pick coloring in each tile complimentary to tiles laying adjacent. She went far above our expectations.

Due to water damage in our home, we needed to have slate laid in our family room. We had some special design in our family room from when we built the house, so we were nervous about having the work done. I researched the reviews on Angie's lList to find a contractor. Kathy Young came to our place to give us an estimate and we knew immediately that we would be comfortable with her work. On the day she did the job, she laid out every piece of the natural slate on a tarp in the family room and carefully picked each piece looking at the coloring for the color transitions and textures. Absolutely everything was left clean. When she finished, we were thrilled. We plan to have her back in the spring to do floors in 2 rooms on the lower level of our home. She has already measured and discussed with us so we will have the information we need when we are ready to start.

Kathy met with my wife and I at our home and tile dealers several times to go over our requested design and requirements and provided her inputs on design, stone/tile choices, colors. She challenged us to go from our normal Boring white on white TO Beautiful with plenty of colors and unique stone designs.
Kathy is honest in her opinion and will never cut corners or sacrifice quality. She would rather not do the job than install something that in years will not last.
Kathy is meticulous in her work..she will spend hours laying out and ensuring ALL lines are straight and beautiful. She will reject any tile with the slightest flaw and continually reviewed the job progress with us. Always interested in a quality job and having her customers satisfied.
All of this took time and Kathy never made us feel rushed to make the decisions and even when we had to make changes due to my requests or adapt to less than great work by some of my other contractors.

Kathy and her crew did a great job ! I really appreciate her attention to detail, her professionalism, and her experience. She had several suggestions to insure a quality job in my 1920's house. One of my walls had a depression, Kathy applied three coats of filler to bring it to grade - the end result was perfect. To prevent future file and grout cracking on my old squeaky floor she suggested a "separator barrier" between the tile and the sub floor - which I went with. On the shower wall she put a rubber barrier to prevent any possible leaks as well. Kathy is also a great source of knowledge in the design department. I had several ideas in mind and Kathy made suggestions and gave me advice about the pros and cons of each, and helped me decide. She knows what tile is available and has connections in the SLC area. My bathroom looks great and I am greatful to Angies list and Young tile for such a Super Job !!!

She does good work, but she is NOT an honest person. She will try to charge you more than she told you. I didn't get a written price quote - stupid me. I trusted what she TOLD me and that wasn't what she ended up charging me. I asked her three times how much it would be so it was very clear - this is not a case of miscommunication. If she wanted to make a certain about of money for the job then she should have just told me that was how much it was going to be. Instead she said she would do it by the hour and then charged me for an extra hour of work she didn't do! WHAT?! She made some stupid excuse about how she came up with the number - and it wasn't worth it to me to fight with her. Just wanted to warn the rest of you!

Kathy and her associate did an excellent job. They did the job on short notice and did it a punctual manner. The job was completed in less than a week. The quality of the job I would rate as exceptional, although I am not an expert. I will definitely recommend the Young Tile Company to anyone needing tile flooring. I hope to have Kathy do the tile backsplash in my newly remodeled kitchen.

A date was set pending the tile arrival which was delayed due to the fault of the shipping company. After about a week and a half went Kathy the extra mile touching base with Daltile expressing her displeasure with the lateness of the order. She made an appointment with Daltile to help me chose a in-stock tile which I liked even better then my original choice. A date was set for the installation of the ceramic tile. Kathy was prompt laying down protective tarps to prevent carpet getting dirty. The work took about 3 hours from start to finishing laying down the tile and she cleaned up completely. One more date was set a few days later for her to come back and grout the tile which didn't take long at all. I am very pleased with the professional, courteous, friendly attitude work performed by Young Tile Company. I would recommend them highly.
