Customers say: Quick response

"I am pleased to provide a review for Jason and the team at Sewell Electric for their excellent work on my recent recessed lighting project. From the beginning, Jason was prompt in responding to my request for a project quote. He was able to come out the following day for a free consultation and quote, which was a great price compared to other electricians I had contacted. I was impressed with how quickly the team was able to return to my home within a few days to complete the work. During the installation process, they placed plastic over the living room furniture to protect it from dust, which was a thoughtful gesture. They did a superb job on the lighting installation, and their professionalism was evident throughout the project. After completing the project, they even vacuumed and cleaned up afterwards, which was a nice touch. The quote that Jason provided was spot on, and I appreciated how transparent and honest he was throughout the process. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the quality of work that Sewell Electric provided, and I will definitely use them in the future if a need for related work arises. I highly recommend Sewell Electric to anyone in need of electrical services. Thank you, Jason, and the team at Sewell Electric, for a job well done!"

Small jobs welcome

"I bought my grandmother's home that was built in the 60's with absolutely no living room lighting. Needless to say Cole came over to give me a bid and was absolutely reasonable with it. Adding 6 lights and switches to my living room and a dining room light (the previous light was off center). After he finished installing my living room lights he addressed a concern of mine in my electrical panel which was that my dryer and AC wires were double tapped, causing them to overload the breaker anytime I ran both at the same time. Cole took care of me without any complaint. He is very respectful, knowledgeable, and cleans up after himself with taking proper precautions by covering my floors before beginning work. I will have him do ANY of my electrical work (again being an older home I need some more updating) at my house or I will recommend him to anyone that needs it."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Layton, frequent breaker trips, dimming or flickering lights, and outlets that feel warm can signal underlying electrical issues. Homes with outdated wiring types, like knob-and-tube or aluminum, are especially at risk. Missing GFCI outlets in kitchens or bathrooms, evidence of rodent damage after winter, or any electrical work completed without proper inspections are strong indicators that a licensed electrician should assess your system.

Helpful?

Layton offers a range of electrical contractors, including residential specialists for home wiring, lighting upgrades, and panel replacements. Commercial electrical contractors handle larger business and industrial projects. Some focus on solar panel installations, smart home system integration, or electric vehicle charging stations. For urgent repairs, emergency service electricians are available. Always verify that your contractor is licensed and experienced with Layton’s local codes.

Helpful?

In Layton, homeowners often skip required permits, underestimate the complexity of home wiring, or hire unlicensed help, risking safety and delays. Overlooking local code requirements or failing to plan for Layton’s weather—especially for outdoor electrical work—can cause setbacks. Not budgeting for inspections or neglecting to schedule them at key stages may lead to costly rework. Always choose a qualified, local electrical contractor and follow all city guidelines.

Helpful?

For electrical projects in Layton, start by confirming your plans meet local electrical safety codes and securing the necessary permits. Partner with a licensed electrical contractor familiar with Layton’s neighborhoods and typical home wiring challenges, especially in older homes. Schedule inspections at both rough-in and final stages, and coordinate with utility companies early if upgrades or digging are needed. Always factor in seasonal weather, which can affect outdoor work timelines.

Helpful?

New homeowners in Layton should prioritize electrical safety by installing GFCI and AFCI protection, especially in kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms. Upgrading the electrical panel is wise in older homes, as is adding surge protection to guard against Utah’s frequent storms. Consider energy-efficient LED lighting and programmable thermostats, and plan for outdoor needs like weatherproof outlets or generator connections to handle Layton’s seasonal demands.
