"Andrew Brown from Alarm Protection Group facilitated the installation of our home security system. He was a very helpful and informative, and was not pushy, as with other ADT sales reps. He followed up with us after the system was installed to see if we had any questions or concerns re the system. I highly recommend Andrew to anyone who is interested in a home security system."

"For starters, these guys are a breath of fresh air! It is really hard to find an honest security company these days, that isnt trying to sell you on things you dont need or lock you into a lifetime contract. I had these guys install my camera system that I bought online about a year ago. The installation was great! Unfortunately, the equipment, not so much.. (sshpros did warn me that the system was not the greatest, but I had them sitting in my garage for way too long to return). After having a ton of issues with cameras going black, night vision not working, and getting replacements from Lorex, I was about fed up. So I called the owner, Kyle, to see if he could send someone back out to take a look. He came out to my place himself and was able to diagnose some issues likely to do with the recorder, not the cameras themselves. He did not charge me for coming out and even provided a free estimate for a new full security system that he recommended would work much better. It was a bit beyond our budget, but he gave us a discount for using them in the past and even more discounts since all of the cable had been ran. I am so happy we decided to go for it and we want to sing Security and Smarthome Pros praises to all of our neighbors! One thing that stood out to me is that they dont require any contracts which put me at ease when spending money on a system like this. We have enjoyed our system so much, we ended up adding a ton of Smart Home equipment as well and everything has worked flawlessly! These guys provide an incredible service and Kyle runs a truly professional and high quality business. Thanks Kyle!"

"We had been recently having some trouble with security. We called Sound Protection and Dan answered during a holiday weekend to schedule a time he could come out and take a look. Showed uo on time for pre install and install. Made sure we were happy with the system and gave us the beat price for our system and of course we were paying for the system, quality of service and more."

"Assurance Systems were very professional and knowable since minute one. They came first to check on the house, find the best install options and give us a quote. Once hired communication was perfect, showed up on time and performed a very clean, professional install of security cameras wiring. Sam and the guy helping him were very respectful and professional all the time, and finished up in less time than expected. Wiring is very clean and the system works great. Highly recommended!!!!"

"My original review was not positive due to onsite miscommunication with the provider. The home office immediately contacted me and offered to send another handyman "Preston" to handle the Job. From that moment on, my experience was fantastic as he communicated timely, was very professional and skilled at his profession. Very happy with the end result."

Home Security Systems questions, answered by experts

Smart home upgrades can be worth the money. Several upgrades, including smart thermostats and ceiling fans, can help reduce your energy bills. Others make life more convenient, freeing up your time to do what you love (or get more work done). And some smart home upgrades, such as entertainment systems, simply make life more enjoyable. All are worthy causes.

The average cost to install a home security system is about $750. However, the price can range from as little as $200 for a simple wireless camera setup to $2,000 for a fully monitored, hardwired system. A typical price range is $280 to $1,150. Several factors determine the final cost, including the type of system, equipment, materials, labor, activation fees, monthly surveillance fees, and permits. Optional upgrades will also add to the price, such as video surveillance monitoring ($40–$65 per month), smart locks ($150), smart lighting ($15–$90), smart smoke and carbon monoxide alarms ($35–$100), and a smart thermostat ($130–$500).

Yes, keyless locks can deter burglars, mostly because they boost security and offer advanced features. Most models allow for unique codes or temporary access, making it harder for intruders to break in. Many of these smart locks even alert you if someone tries to tamper with them. However, you need to remember that while they provide an added layer of protection, no lock is completely foolproof. Pairing these locks with good security habits—like proper lighting and surveillance cameras—creates a strong defense to help stop intruders in their tracks.

Technically, there isn't a difference between safe rooms and storm shelters. Both are designed to protect you from storms and extreme weather events. People often use “safe room” when discussing a shelter inside a building and storm shelter when talking about a detached unit.

Additionally, a safe room is understood to have more functions than a storm shelter. You may seek shelter in a safe room when you believe an intruder is in the home or when under another type of threat.

The main difference between different security sensor options is the type of motion each detects. A motion detector monitors obvious movements in hallways, entrances, and exits. On the other hand, a presence detector is more sensitive and captures smaller moves. A window sensor typically focuses on the opening and closing of the window, whereas a glass break sensor alarms you when a glass is broken.
