"Mr. Pena has been far more responsive that I've experienced with other contractors in Lubbock. His person installed the deck boards and there were a few that were less than ideal. I pointed them out and he agreed and fixed them within 24 hours. Terracotta tile is a broad term for clay tile that’s been fired in a kiln, and Saltillo tile is a specific type of terracotta tile produced in Saltillo, Mexico. In addition to Saltillo, terracotta tile comes in a range of other shades and styles. You’ll often find it used in buildings throughout Mexico, southern Europe, and the western United States.

Ideally, you should remove tile before installing hardwood floors, but there are good reasons not to. Removing stubborn tile can be a labor-intensive job that adds days to the project. The subfloor beneath the tiles could also be damaged during the process, meaning you’d have to repair the subfloor before installing the new hardwood floor. 

You cannot tile directly over hot mop waterproofing because tile requires a smooth, solid surface to adhere properly. Additionally, the shower bed pan needs to be raised and sloped toward the drain to prevent water from pooling. However, you can hot mop and apply a sloped mortar bed over the top (to which the tile can then be adhered). 

Thinset mortar is the best adhesive for ceramic tiles on concrete. It is easy to work with and has a slower dry time than mastic or epoxy mortars. This longer dry time gives the installer more time to adjust tiles, which is especially useful for DIYers who may not have tile installation experience. It can also be built up to help level any depressions or gaps in the concrete subfloor.

While you shouldn’t use thinset mortar on its own as a floor leveler, it can work alongside other products to help level floors. For instance, you could start with a self-leveling compound, let that dry, then apply backer board with thinset mortar to help fully even out the floors ahead of laying tile.
