Concrete countertops can last a lifetime with proper maintenance. That includes regular resealing, waxing, and repairing any chips or cracks. At a minimum, they should last 20 years before major issues occur or performance drastically declines. The longevity of concrete countertops is a major reason people add them to their kitchens. It also makes up for the high cost of installation and added maintenance.
One of the best ways to use bar-height countertops is as a divider. If you have an open concept home, this can visually separate your kitchen from your living space. This countertop is also ideal for entertaining. You can cook in your kitchen, while your guests can sit at the island and be at a similar level.
If you want your butcher countertops to last the typical 20 years, you should seal them monthly. Most homeowners use either oil or polyurethane, which helps repel water from the porous material. Most recycled glass countertops are nonporous, so they don’t require sealant. There is, however, one major exception.
