"Jess was very easy to talk to and accommodating. He built a great deck for me and did it in very difficult circumstances. I was out of the country during the build and he still made time to communicate with me and make sure that the build came out as planned."

"Thomas stained my 500 foot long 8' cedar fence. First, he power washed it and then applied the stain. He also fixed both of my gates. Thomas is very professional, attentive and conscientious. Communication was excellent. He did a wonderful job on my fence and I would definitely use him again. Check him out."

"GREAT WORK! We have used this company for all our painting needs. Used since 2018. They recently completely redid all my kitchen and utility room cabinets including the island. Went from old stained cabinets to beautiful painted cabinets. They always take great care in taping off and using plastic to cover areas to prevent overspray and unneeded brush marks. Always on time and keep the work area clean. Our house was in terrible condition when we bought it, but with MQ’s help it is now one of the nicest houses in our area. I HIGHLY recommend MQ for all our painting needs, inside and outside!!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Yes, they provide design insights that enhance space utility and visual appeal.

Yes, you must thoroughly clean your deck before staining. If you don't, dirt, debris, grease, and mildew can get trapped between the wood and the new stain. This not only looks unsightly but also prevents the stain from penetrating the wood properly, reducing its ability to protect the deck from weather and UV rays. As a result, the stain won't last as long or look as good. Any existing mold or mildew left untreated can continue to grow beneath the new stain, potentially leading to wood rot and structural damage. Always wait at least 48 hours after cleaning for the wood to dry completely before applying stain.

If you don’t treat a cedar fence, it will turn from reddish brown to gray over time. You can keep the cedar from graying and retain its attractive, deep red color by sealing your cedar fence with a stain that keeps the wood’s oils in and serves as a barrier against the sun’s UV rays.

Two coats of stain are ideal for the best protection and aesthetic appeal. However, if your decking is made of particularly dense hardwood, you may only need one coat. If you want an intense color, two coats are ideal.

Stain is meant to be absorbed by the porous wood, allowing some of the natural grain to show through. With that in mind, you don’t want to add more stain than the wood can absorb, as you risk covering up its natural markings. Generally, two coats is the maximum you should do, although very dense hardwoods may only be able to take a single coat.
