"I hired Brad Kleban and Cutting Edge last December to attach and secure a towel rack, fill in a hole in my bathroom with putty, and then to paint the entire bathroom as well as do a smaller job in the laundry room. The cost was $450.00. I gave him an additional $50.00 even though he did not do everything that I wanted. I would have liked for him to do a smaller paint job in my bedroom that the previous contractor missed. Back in April I noticed that the caulking around my tub was peeling and needed to be replaced. I wanted for him to come by again to not only caulk the tub but to do two small jobs of removing door stops and then painting the part of the wall to make it unnoticeable in addition to the paint job in my bedroom that he did not do the last time. There were multiple phone calls, close to a dozen, by me in order to set up an appointment. On May 10, I informed him that I worked from home three days a week. He responded on May 13 that he needed to reschedule for May 15. We settled on May 17 but the appointment never happened. Each time that we wanted to reschedule there was always a scheduling conflict either through my work or his or a previous appointment that I had. On May 20, I drove out to his place about 16 miles away on one of days that I worked from home in order to set up an appointment. He showed up on May 23 to look at what needed to be done. I never received an estimate on the price, However, on May 26, he texted me that he was really backed up at the moment and would give a shout out next week. That was the last that I heard from him. On June 2 when I did not hear from him, I texted him because I wanted to know what his schedule looked like and if he could give me an estimate of the cost. As of June 28, I have not heard back from him. I have since hired two different contractors to caulk my tub and do the two small paint jobs. The caulk around the tub could not wait because the longer I waited, the more chance there was that damage would occur, and it would not fix itself. For the first appointment, I give him a 4, but for not responding to me, my overall experience dropped. I understand that he was busy, but I did drive out to his place and he never followed up on setting up an appointment."

"Scott is a pleasure to work with. He does what he says he is going to do. We had an issue with a tile being knocked loose during installation of the cabinets and he came out that same afternoon and reset it. I've used him to paint the kitchen ceiling and it came out great too."

Caulking Services questions, answered by experts

Absolutely, they tailor their approach to address individual requirements, ensuring satisfaction on every visit.

Many contractors prefer checks because they’re easy to track and have no associated fees. However, many also accept credit cards (though they might add a fee to cover their processing costs).

Before hiring a handyperson, it's important to ask several questions to ensure they are the right fit for the job. Key areas to cover include their experience, logistics, and job specifics.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • What kind of work do you specialize in?

  • How long have you been doing this kind of work?

  • Are you licensed and insured?

  • Do you have references?

  • Can you provide before-and-after photos of your work?

Estimates and Contracts:

  • Do you charge for estimates?

  • Will you provide a written estimate and contract?

  • Does the estimate cover both labor and materials?

  • How much do you expect materials to cost?

Project Details and Guarantees:

  • When can you start the job, and how long do you expect it to take?

  • Do you provide a guarantee for your work?

  • Will you handle cleanup and waste disposal after the job is finished?

  • Do you have any questions about the projects on my list?

The cost to hire a handyman can vary, with most charging on a per-hour or per-project basis. On average, expect to pay between $50 and $150 per hour, with a typical rate around $90 per hour. For project-based work, the average cost is about $400, though the total can range from as low as $180 to $1,500 or more. Some handypeople may also require a minimum flat rate, such as payment for two hours of work.

Several factors influence the final cost, including:

  • The type, size, difficulty, and complexity of the job

  • The amount of time the work takes

  • The handyman's experience level

  • Your geographic location

  • The cost of materials and any necessary permits

  • Accessibility of the work area and potential travel costs

Additionally, you may encounter higher rates or extra fees for emergency services or work scheduled during holidays.

While handypeople do not need to be licensed in many places, you should only hire insured pros for any home improvement work. Your handyperson should have active liability coverage that protects them and you in the case of an error or accident. Furthermore, if they have employees on your property, they should also have workers’ compensation insurance. If you hire an individual or a company that is not insured and they damage your property, have an accident while on the job, or become injured on your property without insurance, you can be held financially liable.
