We had 3 bids all through Angie's List, one of the companies Granite Outlet II that  we had used before. The other two bids were from Solid Stone Fab. and KAT Fab

Most of the bids were similar, except all of the companies provided different prices for removal, sink cutout, plumbing for rehook-up of sink, and rehooking up stove top.

Granite Outlet II had a plumber in-house. Solid Stone had a recommendation for a plumber and KAT didn't provide a recommendation.

We kept our backslash and KAT was the only company that had an issue with cutting it down if needed. And it was cut to allow for the quartz.

We chose Solid Stone Fabricators because we trusted Claudia to do a good job for us. She was very attuned to our needs and anytime we asked her a question if she didn't already know it she got right back with us. She took good notes and made sure we were getting exactly what we wanted. She was very professional and a pleasure to work with. We went to see the where the countertops were fabricated at Solid Stone and we also went to Cambria Quartz in Carrollton and looked at the Quartz we wanted and received large samples there.

They came out and measured and showed up on time, then we scheduled for the install.

The installers showed up at their scheduled time and finished in less then 5 hours. The next morning the plumber came and hooked the sink and stove back up.

Claudia came out a few days later and bought us our extra quartz. its VERY heavy but we wanted to keep it and they also made us a cutting board.

I LOVE MY COUNTERTOPS AND NEW GRANITE SINK!

"M.H.I Granite was fantastic to work with and the cost was very reasonable. The results were outstanding and I couldn’t be happier. Rigo was spot on with his suggestions and it transformed my kitchen more than I could ever imagine. I will definitely use them for my future bathroom updates."

"Ken is a very nice man. He arrived on time and took care of cleaning my carpets quickly. I periodically interrupted him to ask questions or to guide him on tough areas and he never demonstrated irritation. Ken went beyond expectations by instructing me on regular carpet care, i.e. how to vacuum my carpet to get the best results in-between cleanings. I learned a few new tricks thanks to him. Also, Ken saw areas in the house that I might want additional assistance. Without being pushy Ken had a camera in his truck and showed me before-and-after pictures on stone/tile enhancers. We also talked about my challenges in cleaning the black granite counter-tops and he sent me an email the very next day with link to a product that he has found helpful. Overall, Ken was courteous, helpful, and conscientious about his work."

"The Good:
BEAUTIFUL WORK!
Derek has and was always very good with communication which was mainly via email. He was very friendly and willing to work with you and your requests and needs.
The tile guy always cleaned up when he was done with work for the day.
Contractors used for glass install were very professional and quality work was done.
The faucet installer was very nice and did a great job.
The Neutral:
The project overall took about a month but if everyone coordinated or was working on one project 100% it would have taken about 1.5 weeks to complete. About 2 weeks of that time little to no work was done. I understand that most contractors work on multiple projects so things have to be coordinated as such.
The Bad:
Unfortunately, he really needs to get better contractors.
The tile guy would either show up late or not at all and I would have to contact Derek to see when and if he would ever show. The tile guy always had an excuse to why he was late.
The granite guy left and absolute mess of my bathrooms and used my toilet and didn't flush!
Getting anyone to come back out after work is done to fix or touch up things is impossible. I had to wind up doing everything myself, thanks to online searching!
Conclusion:
If some things were to improve or change then I would consider working with Derek again. I think it's a bit unfair to say that I would not work with him again but there isn't an option of "unsure".

"In the end, the bathroom turned out beautiful and we were very pleased.  Getting there, however, was another story.

From the very beginning Randy, the owner, would tell us one thing but later turn out to be quite different. Starting with the price: after we picked out all the materials & design, the contract price turned out to be about $4K higher than the estimate he originally told us. He blamed us for the higher price because of the design & materials we picked, though it was his own in-house designer who came up with the design & picked out the accent pieces. I understand the design made it more expensive, but he should have just been upfront & honest as to what it could cost, rather than saying "it would never cost over a certain amount" (which it did). We felt like we couldn't trust what he said after that but decided to give him a chance.

Things didn't get better after that. He told us someone would show up every day at about the same time once the project started, but it turned out to be a different time every day. Some days we would be awakened early and other days no one would show up for several hours after the expected start time.  On two different occasions, I had taken off of work to be there and no one showed up at all. Had Randy told us ahead of time what was going on, we could have rearranged our schedules accordingly. It was extremely frustrating.

Additionally, his employees were constantly having to run to Home Depot or Lowe's to get the tools they needed to do the job. This wasted A LOT of time and seemed very unprofessional. And one of his employees was tasked with installing our new tub but apparently did not know anything about plumbing. He ended up hiring two different plumbers before the tub was finally installed.  At one point, he tried to blame it on us, saying that we had picked out a smaller tub than what had been in there before. But the place HE sent us to for the fixtures had only ONE tub in the size and style we needed. He said nothing beforehand about the size of tub. In fact, every time any type of problem arose, he would blame someone else for the problem, rather than taking responsibility himself.  The work also took roughly twice as long as he originally estimated (4 weeks). Some of that, though, was due to the Thanksgiving holiday and icy roads. Still, a lot of it was needlessly slowed down because of disorganization.

The quality of work overall was very good
, though the wall they built leans slightly and there are a few imperfections in the tile work, which is to be expected. There's also imperfections in the finishing of the granite counter tops. Despite that, we are thoroughly pleased with how it looks overall.

And there were GOOD THINGS about this company. One is that most of his workers were very courteous & trust-worthy. He also employs two in-house designers to help with your project. I really appreciated Andie's help in coming up with a beautiful design. We've received many compliments. Another positive is that Randy has a lot of experience and does really know his business. He also took the time initially to go with us to help pick out the granite & tile. One last positive is that he told us he guarantees his workmanship for 5 years -- though it wasn't stated on our contract. I guess we'll just have to trust him on that.

In conclusion, the only way I would ever recommend him to a friend is if he were to hire some kind of project manager to do all of his coordinating and communication. If he would do this, it would be a much more efficient company."

Granite Restoration questions, answered by experts

Buffing will only remove scratches at the surface level of your flooring. You may also need to apply hardwood floor wax to restore the wax layer. To remove deeper scratches, you’ll need another floor repair method like sanding; however, if you sand the floor, you’ll also need to stain and seal it.

The restoration process often involves a team of professionals to address various types of damage. Depending on the situation, this can include general contractors, electricians, plumbers, mold remediation experts, and specialists in smoke and water damage.

Acid can seriously damage granite countertops and lead to etching and erosion. This is why cleaning with vinegar isn’t recommended. Other acidic items that you should keep away from your granite countertops include:

  • Citrus

  • Acetone nail polish remover

  • Tomatoes

  • Ammonia

In addition, always steer clear of using bleach on or around your granite as it will degrade the countertop’s sealant quickly.

Yes, baking soda does shine marble. Sprinkle it directly on the marble and let it sit for about five minutes, then wipe it clean with a damp microfiber cloth. If you’d like to make a baking soda paste, then simply mix the baking soda with equal parts water and apply it. You can also add baking soda and dishwashing liquid to a bucket of warm water and mop a marble surface.

Common causes include impact, heat, and improper cleaning agents. Regular maintenance prevents major issues.
