"Seal & Appeal crushed it for us. They built our deck and privacy fence and it came out awesome. We ended up calling them back to repaint the house, and while they were here they noticed our gutters had some pretty bad storm damage from last year. They handled that too and it was way cheaper than another quote we got. Super easy crew to work with and really flexible when we had to move things around on our end. Overall just a really solid experience would definitely recommend them to anyone."

"I cannot say enough about this team. We have used them twice and will continue to use them for any future projects. Blake, Jesse and the painting team are top notch! Honest, professional and hard workers. Their prep work kept our home immaculate as well! Iâ m not sure why people may have had a negative experience with themâ ¦other than there is more than one Certpro location. If you use this one, you wonâ t be disappointed!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Hot, intense sunshine can cause your stain to dry too quickly, which could lead it to look uneven or patchy. If you’re staining the deck during hotter months, it’s best to do it in the morning or evening once the wood has had time to cool down. If you’re staining in cooler weather with less sunshine, the time of day won’t make as much of a difference.

There’s no single paint that’s the most waterproof. Instead, there are several types of waterproof and water-resistant paints that suit different purposes. Epoxy paint, for instance, is commonly used to provide a waterproof coating to floors and decks. Masonry paint is an excellent choice for exterior walls. Meanwhile, there are waterproof acrylic paints that can be used for interior and exterior walls. It’s more about choosing the best type for what you’re painting instead of the most waterproof paint overall.

Yes, you can waterproof any wood that has not already been treated. A good way to test this is to splash some water on it. If the water starts to bead up, the wood is treated and most likely doesn’t need another coating.

Applying too much sealer to a deck might seem like extra protection, but it can cause more harm than good. Wood is a porous material with a limited capacity to absorb liquids. When you go overboard with sealer, the excess can't soak in and instead forms a film on the surface. This leftover layer is prone to peeling, cracking, and trapping moisture, ultimately defeating the purpose of sealing in the first place.

The best way to protect a deck is to prevent damage from UV light, water, mold, mildew, insects, and abrasive cleaning methods. Sweep regularly to prevent debris that hides bugs and traps moisture that can result in mold or mildew growth. Use a deck cleaner once a year to remove algae, mold, and mildew. Avoid using pressure washers on high, as they can damage the wood. Applying a deck sealant can protect the wood from UV and water damage, and adding shade can also reduce sunlight damage.
