"They kept me informed regarding the weather in order to come to clean the gutters. They wrote me notes - they wanted to keep their staff safe.  I was impressed that they kept me up to date like that instead of making me wonder when they were coming.  Then today they wrote me a message that they were coming today to clean the gutters and sure enough they came as they said they would.  I didn't have to be here so that was very convenient.  I am also highly impressed that they donate 10% of their profits to several places.  That tells me a lot about their company.  I thought they were great.  I will use them again.

I've lived in Dallas for only a little while, but it already feels like home, I started this company because I wanted to be my own boss and build my own future. I am easygoing, I like to have fun with the process!. I most want my customers to know I always put myself in my customers shoes, treat their home like my own.

The company provided a quick and fair quotation using photos and measurements that I provided of the deck along with a description of the services I was requiring.  Upon my acceptance of the quote, the work was scheduled that week.

When the technician arrived, he assessed that due to the previous staining job being performed on wet pressure treated wood that we would need to use a different type of stain product than was originally quoted.  The difference in price was ~$50 and we mutually agreed to the change in scope.

The technician performed the cleaning on the first day.  The cleaning consisted of a blower to remove any large debris and a pressure wash with a cleaning solution.

The staining occurred on day two and was applied with a gas-powered sprayer.  We had chosen a Sherman Williams Solid Color Traditional Russet Superdeck Stain.  As Good As New offered a 3 year warranty for this product.

Upon completion, the technician and I walked the job and looked for missed spots.  We found none.  He then gave detailed instructions on how to care for the new stain and told me to call if we had any issues during the warranty period.

Overall a very positive experience with As Good As New.

"They did a wonderful job.  The fence looks great!  They obtained the building permit in the estimated time, and arrived for work as expected.  The workers were friendly and respectful.  They cleaned up the site nicely upon completion.  Overall, we are very pleased."

"I initially spoke with Cavalry Tech to repair my fence but after receiving their bid to replace, I couldn't pass. They did an absolute amazing, beautiful job on my new fence! Their customer service is great as well. They even notified my neighbors on the upcoming work. I truly appreciate them and I'm looking forward to hiring them to build me a pergola. You can't and won't go wrong hiring this company! Thanks a lot!!!!!"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Rot loves moisture, so deck rot typically impacts the parts of a board that stay wet. This includes the underside of boards, in addition to support posts and joists. However, any part of a board can rot, given the right conditions.

Constant exposure to inclement weather conditions can damage your deck, causing it to fade, warp, or crack over time. Regular maintenance keeps it looking and performing its best. That means giving it a good cleaning and applying a quality sealant or wood treatment to help defend against moisture, sun damage, and everyday wear.

It is possible to build your own deck, but it’s typically better to leave the work to a decking professional. Decks can be exceptionally complicated, especially if you want a wrap-around or second-story deck, and you don’t want to risk making an expensive or dangerous mistake. It’s usually better to hire a decking pro who can pull permits and build a structurally sound deck that will last for decades and provide the maximum return on investment.

Whether composite decking is better than wood depends on your priorities, especially regarding budget and maintenance. Composite decking offers superior longevity (30 to 50 years) and durability, and it is low-maintenance, requiring no sanding, staining, or sealing. In contrast, wood decks typically last 10 to 30 years and need refinishing every few years. While the upfront cost of composite is higher than wood, the reduced maintenance can lead to long-term savings. If a lower initial cost is the primary factor, wood is the more affordable choice.

Pressure-treated wood contains preservatives that give the material internal protection from rot and pests. Untreated lumber won’t last more than a few years unless you choose a more expensive wood, like cedar, that naturally stands up well to moisture. Composite decking can outlast wood but is more expensive and doesn’t look as natural. Keep in mind that you’ll need to seal any exterior wood product to protect it from the elements and other forms of external damage.
