Right Way Renovations is a company that is highly skilled in all Handyman Home Repair as well as Commercial Maintenance. We take pride in what we do and doing it right the first time, with over 15 years experience. So many companies out there promise you the world and you usually wind up with a subcontractor whose work is leased out under a larger companies name, only the subcontractors rarely have the same standards as the company they work for. At Right Way Renovations I make it my business to work with the client not against them. To go out of my way to get the job done in a turn key fashion; start to finish. It is my number one goal to have customer satisfaction. Right Way Renovations keeps pricing for each unique job reasonable and fair. All quotes will be given on a job by job bases to reflect the task at hand and not the companies rise in popularity. Right Way Renovations will strive to be a blessing to our community and the surrounding communities.

Plaster Repair questions, answered by experts

Depending on the quality of the plaster and the moisture in the building, plaster can last over 100 years in some cases. It may develop cracks in some places, but many find it aesthetically appealing. As long as no structural damage affects the plaster and maintenance is being performed—mainly repairing small patches and addressing water damage—plaster can last a long time.

If the holes in the plaster are small, you can fill them with layers of patching plaster until they’re filled. After it dries, you can sand the plaster and paint over it. If the hole is much larger, consider using bonding plaster first and then a layer of patching plaster, completing the process with sanding and a layer of paint.

You can plaster over an old plaster ceiling if the existing plaster is in good condition. Ensure the surface is clean, free of loose material, and roughened slightly to promote adhesion. Applying a bonding agent or primer can further enhance adhesion. Proper preparation ensures a smooth and long-lasting plaster finish.

Heat can help plaster dry faster, but it's very easy to get too much of a good thing. When exposed to high heat during the curing process, plaster can dry out too quickly, leading to cracks and affecting the material's integrity. The recommended drying temperature should be listed on the plaster's packaging. If possible, set the thermostat in the room to that temperature, but not any higher.

While it’s most common to sand plaster dry, it is possible to wet-sand plaster, too. Doing so can reduce the amount of plaster dust released into the air and make it easier to work in smaller, more delicate areas (such as around wall trim). However, some people find that wet sanding leads to more imperfections, which is why larger walls are more often dry sanded to ensure an even finish.
