"First I want to commend Art with his communication skills in translating my vague descriptions into something better than I imagined.  I only wish my hairdresser could follow directions as well.  First there was two phases of leveling the area after a thorough cleaning and drying.  The work was not rushed as weather was a consideration.  The base concrete was carefully applied and dried.  The molds were applied to the last layer.  I was given a choice of many colors for the "sandstone flagstone."  The final results looked better than any other examples I have seen.  The sealing coat is one giving it a slight sheen.  I can put any color pot and it will blend.  The whole process took about a week.  We are having our front walkway done next.

I’m Brandon Shaw, owner of SHAW Construction & Remodeling, serving homeowners across North Texas. I’ve spent over a decade in construction, starting in heavy equipment and moving into hands-on residential remodeling, so I understand both the big picture and the small details that make a job last. My company focuses on quality work—whether it’s painting, flooring, drywall, or full interior upgrades—and I treat every home like it’s my own. I believe in doing things right the first time, communicating clearly, and standing behind my work long after the job is done.

Epoxy Flooring questions, answered by experts

Exterior paint finishes come in a variety of options, but for concrete, your best bet is to go with an eggshell, satin, or semi-gloss latex paint. All three options are more durable than matte finishes and should help hide imperfections on your home’s concrete surface.

Yes, you can seal an old concrete floor as long as you remove stains and repair damage before sealing. Remove everything from the garage and clear the floor throughout with a concrete cleaner and power washing. Fill in cracks larger than 1/8 of an inch wide and remove all grease and rust stains before sealing. Make sure your concrete is fully dried before applying sealer.

The amount of paint needed to cover a two-car garage floor depends on the surface area and the product's coverage rate. On average, a standard two-car garage floor measures 400 to 500 square feet. Coverage ranges from 100 to 200 square feet per gallon for epoxy paint, depending on the product and application method. After some quick math, you may need 2 to 5 gallons of epoxy paint with two coats to cover a two-car garage floor.

Epoxy coatings for garage floors offer a variety of finish and design options, including:

  • Decorative colored flakes: $10 per 250-pound bag

  • Metallic epoxy: $5–$12 per square foot

  • Rock or stone epoxy: $100 per gallon

  • Acrylic and poly-acrylic sealants: $0.85–$1.15 per square foot

  • Polyurethane sealant: $0.95–$1.10 per square foot

  • Polyurea sealant: $150 per gallon

The concrete that likely already makes up your garage floor is the longest-lasting garage floor material, although you can treat it with a variety of coverings to improve its durability. Epoxy is one of the most popular options, as it’s relatively affordable, adds strength to the floor, helps prevent staining and physical damage, and even improves the resistance to water intrusion. Other popular options for durable floor coverings include rubber, an aspartic coating, and vinyl.
