We are based in Arlington, where our family has been for 35 years and we operate throughout Dallas/Fort Worth and North Texas. We work with most insurance companies following storms to quickly and professionally replace or repair the roof over your head. We specialize in replacement of roofing impacted by wind and/or hail and we operate throughout the entire Metroplex. If your home has been subject to wind or hail within the last 2 years, you should have it inspected by a professional. Damage may or may not be apparent to the untrained eye. (Most) insurance companies only give you up to 2 years for claims, some give even less. Your rates are not affected by your own claims as, per state law, rates are raised by zip codes periodically. If your neighbors are getting new roofs, your helping to fund them through rate increases. Call for any questions... we're happy to help! Father & Son- Monroe Smith & Cory Smith

"We needed to have our roof and skylights replaced do to storm damage. We had worked with Home Performance Concepts before and loved the work they did in replacing some of our windows, so we called them to quote replacing the skylights. We didn't know they did roofing work as well. When we found out they did we had them bid the job along with the others. Their bid was very competitive. Because of that and our past positive experience with them we selected them for the job. From start to finish they were fantastic! Very good about communication and addressing concerns. Brought in extra workers on a Sunday to make sure they finished the job on time! We couldn't be happier with the quality of the materials and workmanship, and really appreciate their customer service and lifetime warranty. We will be coming to them again when it is time to replace the rest of the windows in our house! Thanks so much, David and Jerry!"

Skylights questions, answered by experts

A skylight's ability to withstand hail depends on factors like material quality and thickness. Impact-resistant options, such as tempered or laminated glass, fare better against hail compared to standard glass. Proper installation and regular maintenance also contribute to their resilience. While smaller hailstones may not pose a significant threat, larger ones can cause damage. Consider skylight protection methods like covers or screens in hail-prone areas to enhance durability and minimize potential harm.

Yes, you can cover up a skylight if you no longer wish to have it in your space. There are a few options for covering up a skylight. One option is to install a skylight cover or shade that can be easily opened or closed as needed, allowing you to control the amount of light entering the room. Another option is to cover the skylight with a solid material, such as plywood or drywall, effectively sealing it off. However, when covering a skylight, it's essential to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing to prevent any issues in the future.

Yes, solar tubes are easier to install than skylights because they’re lighter, smaller, and easier to handle. They also require less roof cutting and have a faster, simpler installation process. This means they’re a more DIY-friendly option for homeowners who want to add more natural light to their homes.

Yes, skylights can affect a home’s energy efficiency, either positively or negatively. Properly installed, energy-efficient skylights with Low-E coatings, double glazing, and UV-blocking glass can help regulate indoor temperatures and reduce heating and cooling costs. However, poorly insulated or older skylights can contribute to heat loss in winter and excess heat gain in summer, lowering overall energy efficiency.

The most popular treatment for a skylight is skylight shades. There are five primary types: manual, motorized, blackout, cellular//honeycomb, and Venetian. Motorized skylight shades are the most convenient, especially for skylights that are higher up, but manual shades are the most cost-effective treatments. Cellular/honeycomb shades are a perfect option for anyone who wants energy efficiency and an attractive look.
