"Omar from Pilgrim was absolutely wonderful! He arrived on time, did the work, and it was fantastic. Friendly and professional in all things. He was very knowledgeable about our issue and provided extremely helpful advice on another. If I ever have another issue with a lock, I'll promptly call Pilgrim again!"

"I called several contractors from the list. Sherman returned my call within 15 minutes, explaining that he had been with a customer when I called and his policy is not to answer his cell phone when with clients. I wish everyone had the same rule! He laid out exactly what he would do and emphasized that the satisfaction of his customers was paramount to him. He really acted like he wanted my business, a surprisingly rare trait these days. He arranged to meet my wife the following day for a measurement and free estimate. He came and measured and quoted $200. He would not take any payment until the work was completed to our total satisfaction. He made a list of all the materials needed, including trim, mortar, lock hardware, caulk and sealant. He said we could just go to a home improvement store and give them the list (and our credit card, of course) and he would pick everything up. He told us that if we could not find a suitable door he could build one for us if necessary. He was really focused on solving our problem. We had to delay installation a week due to our schedule, but he could have done the work much sooner had we been able. On the arranged installation day Sherman arrived right on time, having picked up everything as he said he would. He went right to work and finished in a couple of hours. He even installed a second pet door for a paltry $25. The work appears to be flawless, and Sherman warranties it for 12 months."

"Because it was sunday, and probably because it was during a football game, I had a heck of a time finding a locksmith. Most locksmiths were either unavailable or would take 2-3 hours before getting to me. Key Kong was available. They arrived before they estimated. The guy was incredibly professional and super fast."

"Vendor contacted us very quickly and requested some basic information like door dimensions and photo. A quote was given online. Once we decided to proceed, vendor's employee arrived at designed time to remove door and replace with a temporary. We were told the work would take 1 week, and it did. We got a call on the morning of the day door was to be returned, and the employee arrived at the appointed time. The quality of the work was excellent. We have already recommended the vendor to friends."

"Choice responded quickly but the insurance plan does not pay for all doors to be re-keyed unless you have very few locks. The number of locks covered by the insurance is determined by keyholes, not doors! (Read your policy!) You will likely have to shell out some money to have this essential new-home service if you have more than four keyholes. The locksmith they called was EXCELLENT and made all our locks completely functional. We will happily hire the locksmith again (R.L Locksmith LLC). We paid $201.81 (plus another $50 for some door re-alignment not included in the re-keying benefit) and Choice paid $100 for the job."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

A deadbolt differs from a regular lock in its design, construction, and security level. Regular locks are typically used for interior doors, such as for bedrooms and bathrooms, and provide minimal security. They are easy to install and use, often featuring a simple locking mechanism on the inside. In contrast, a deadbolt is one of the most secure locks you can install on an exterior door. Its internal construction is designed to withstand significant force, adding a crucial layer of security that can deter intruders. While deadbolts may be more expensive and complicated to install, they are cost-effective for the security they provide and are built to hold up to wear and tear.

Changing door locks is a task that most homeowners can accomplish on their own. Standard door knobs are quite straightforward, and even more advanced locks, like electronic or smart locks, generally come with instructions. That said, the process can be time-consuming, especially if you plan to replace multiple locks around the house. It’s also a task that you want to complete correctly, considering that it affects the security of your house. That’s why hiring a pro is often best when changing your door locks.

It is best to use a dry lubricant, such as a Teflon-based option, for door locks. Unlike popular oil-based lubricants, dry lubricants leave a non-stick, water-repellent coating that does not attract dust, dirt, and other debris. Using an oil-based lubricant can cause these particles to build up inside the lock, making it difficult to operate or even damaging the internal mechanism. You can find dry lubricants, some of which are made specifically for locks, at most hardware stores.

Standard residential deadbolt locks come with a steel bolt that locks your door into place using a key (or keypad) on one side and a thumb turn on the other. When you lock it, the bolt slides into a strike plate on your door jamb to secure your door shut.

Yes, many locksmiths offer 24/7 emergency services for business lockouts, broken keys, and security breaches.
