"I was asked to oversee a window installation project in my neighbors home. I am EXTREMELY happy with the total project. From the salesman Charlie, Jim the gentleman that did the measuring, the very thorough AND PROFESSIONAL install crew, Rudy the finish out and touch-up guy, and Michelle from Admin. It was a terrific experience all around! Windows look awesome. My neighbor is very, very happy and has even adjusted her thermostat 2 degrees higher because it's so cold in the house. What's really amazing is that on the sunny side of the house, you can't even feel the heat on the inside of the window. I'm extremely excited for her. Thanks Southwest!!!"

"Do to a wind storm had numerous shingles blown off of the house.  Called Tony's Roofing Service on Wednesday, same day as the insurance rep visited.  Representative from Tony's came to the house to give estimate in about an hour.  After the giving the estimate, I agreed to have the entire roof done.  The work crew arrived the very next day at 9 AM and worked til sunset.  The next morning they were there to do the finishing touches.  Which included sweeping the yard and front of the house with a magnet/broom to pick up all the nails that had fallen.  They also painted the vents on the roof, now they look as if they were new.  They removed a couple of old unwanted satellite dishes that were on the roof, and disposed of them for me.  They did not take any payment until all the work was completed and checked out.  Great work, great super fast service!

Siding questions, answered by experts

The best types of siding to withstand hail are fiber cement siding and engineered wood siding. Fiber cement siding is known for impact resistance, while some brands of engineered wood siding can withstand hail as big as 1 and 3/4 inches with no marks. Vinyl and aluminum siding are the most susceptible to hail.

The average cost to install stucco siding on a home is around $5,700, with most homeowners paying between $2,200 and $9,100. However, the total cost can range from $750 to as high as $22,750 depending on several factors. On average, you can expect to pay between $7 and $9 per square foot. Key cost factors include the size and complexity of your home, the desired color and texture, labor and material costs in your area, and whether you have a multi-story home. Specific applications have different costs, such as adding stucco over brick ($7 per square foot) or over wood siding ($8.50 per square foot). To save money, you can consider removing the old siding yourself or scheduling the installation during the off-season.

You should consider a siding replacement material that meets your expectations for budget, durability, and if you want to complete the siding project yourself. Some materials are better than others in certain climates and easier to install for beginners. If you’re unsure which material suits your home, check with a local contractor for guidance.

Different types of siding provide unique aesthetic and structural features, with each material commanding its own cost. Availability of materials and shipping costs also factors largely into the cost. The common types of siding materials include:

  • Stucco: $7–$9 per square foot

  • Wood: $1–$15 per square foot

  • Engineered wood: $1–$6 per square foot

  • Aluminum: $3–$6 per square foot

  • Fiber cement: $5–$14 per square foot

  • Brick: $10–$20 per square foot

  • Brick veneer: $3–$10 per square foot

  • Stone: $7–$30 per square foot

  • Stone veneer: $5–$11 per square foot

Engineered wood siding is still a relatively new type of siding, so it’s hard to say with certainty how long engineered wood siding will last. That said, homeowners should expect to get somewhere from 20 to 30 years out of their engineered wood siding, especially if they keep up with maintenance, including painting it every 10 years. Painting the exterior of a house costs an average of $3,150.
