"Javier's Tree service is absolutely the best. We had a huge tree almost touching the house and 2 smaller ones that had to be taken down. Mr. Javier and his crew did the job in approximately 3 1/2 hours. This included taking the trees down and disposing of them. Did a great clean up also. These gentlemen were fascinating to watch! The tree next to the house was worrying us, so big and so close. Took it down like the professionals they are- knew exactly what they were doing. Price was very reasonable and you couldn't ask for a nicer or more accommodating owner and crew. I highly recommend Javier's Tree Service. Thanks to all of you."

Customers say: True professional

"Dr. Bob White & the crew were extremely courteous. He knew exactly what was wrong with my Elm tree & immediately treated it. He was more than fair with me on the cost. I have several more trees that need to be treated. Be assured that BW Insect Control and Tree Care will be the ones that I will call. In my opinion, he is the best."

"We'd had sod laid by another company a year ago but within a month it had died, so we were reluctant (but determined) to try it one more time. Alex looked over the previous year's work, the soil condition, shade and sun areas and recommended "St. Augustine Amerishade" as we have significant shady areas. We had them take out a large fig tree, clean up a year's worth of leaves, rototill and prepare the sub soil. They delivered the sod and installed it the same day (critical to survival of the grass) and today the lawn is flourishing. They top-dressed the sod after 6 weeks which really seemed to help strengthen and hasten the spread to a few bare areas. We'll have them back in a few months for some extensive tree work. Alex and his crew were a delight to work with and managed to communicate well (despite my lousy Spanish). They also cleared the roof and gutters for us. We would not hesitate to hire them again."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Cutting down a tree next to power lines is never a DIY job, and it’s a good idea to contact your utility company first. In most cases, the utility company will need to take care of any tree problems within 10 to 15 feet of power lines. If you want to remove the tree for aesthetic reasons, hire a pro to do the job. Trying to cut trees near power lines yourself can create many safety hazards, and you could be liable if you inadvertently cause damage to electrical equipment.

No, you cannot plant a tree above a gas line. Tree roots grow and spread over time and can sometimes dent, crack, or penetrate a gas line. Those same roots may also cause accessibility problems for maintenance or repairs. You can generally plant vegetation with non-invasive root systems, low-growing vegetation, and flower beds near gas lines.

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.

Poison oak is similar to poison ivy in that it's in the same family of plants. Poison oak is identifiable by its rounded-off leaves and hairy leaf texture. Tree-climbing varieties live primarily in western states while low-growing poison oak bushes occupy the eastern states. Treat poison oak like poison ivy to get rid of it permanently.

Most trees can be successfully transplanted while they are young, but pines, walnuts, and some oak tree varieties are more difficult to move because their root systems grow deeper than most other trees. Also, trees adapted to sandy soil with wide root systems like beeches, willows, and aspens are harder to dig out because their roots spread much farther out from the trunk. In these cases, unless the trees are very young and small, it’s a good idea to consult a tree planting professional.
