"Jose did a wonderful job with our wrought iron fence, stone columns, 3 gates and a trash enclosure. He was also kind enough to return and fix one of the stone columns that got loose. He’s reliable and responsive as well as an easy person to work with. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him."

"I put a 12' x 33' concrete slab at the back of my house in preparation for a sunroom and then got visits and bids from several installers in the Austin area. In a previous house some years ago I had had a moderately unpleasant experience with a nationally known sunroom installer because of leaks and maintenance and, this time, made careful plans in advance. I considered a wood framed structure but the cost would have been 1.5 - 2.5 time more. I chose Lone Star Patio. They installed a beautiful aluminum sunroom over the slab (11 windows + a cabana door) with electrical outlets/fan/light. Peter Garcia, the owner, had a personal hand in almost everything that got done. He is easy to communicate with and responds promptly to texts, emails and phone calls. The person who manually did the installation, Sean, is a perfectionist (and also a really nice fellow). The electricians - subcontractors - were so good that I will call them myself if I need electrical work. Peter knows how to choose good workers. There were some significant delays but these were due to weather and matters beyond Lone Star Patio's control. There is a 5 year labor warranty from Lone Star Patio + longer materials warranties from Norandex (for the windows) and PGT (for the door). Overall, we are very happy with results and I trust the company to provide maintenance, if it's needed during the warranty periods."

"The owner of Solar Screens arrived on time and measured the 8 windows to be covered. He was most helpful in describing the different levels of protection and color choices. He was able to give us a price estimate and approximate date of delivery the first day. The screens are made by him at his shop. He called when they were made and brought them out and secured them to the window on the same day. We were very please with his work and the screens. I will call him again if ever we need his type of services."

"Jared does the estimates and the work himself; for the work he does use a couple of helpers.  As he does the work and the estimates, it took him a bit longer to get back with the estimate, but it was a good estimate - not the highest nor the lowest, but what we thought was a fair price.  We had steel posts in already, but several had either been put in crooked or shifted over the years.  Jared straightened these along with installing the fence.  He was on the job when he said he would be and finished when promised.  The fence is better quality than what we had installed many years ago and much more solid.  We were very happy with his work.  He is involved with all the work and has high standards for quality.  Thank you Jared.  -Ray

Patio Covers questions, answered by experts

To ensure the installation process goes smoothly, it's wise to ask a potential pro several questions. Key topics to cover include:

  • Licensing and Insurance: Do you have a professional license and insurance to perform this work? This is crucial as installing an awning into a home's exterior can be a complex job.

  • Cost Estimate: What was the price of similar jobs you've completed? Awning installation costs can vary based on size, design, and location, so this helps establish a general price range.

  • Project Timeline: How long will this project take to complete? Getting an estimated timeline provides peace of mind, even though unforeseen hurdles can occur.

  • Building Permits: Will I need a building permit for this project, and who is responsible for obtaining it? An experienced local contractor will be knowledgeable about local rules and regulations.

  • References and Portfolio: Do you have references from previous clients or photos of completed projects? Speaking with past clients and seeing previous work can give you insight into their experience and the quality of their work.

The average cost to build a pergola ranges from $2,200 to $6,400, whereas the average cost of an awning ranges from $1,400 to $4,400, meaning that an awning tends to be less expensive to build or install than a pergola. Ultimately, the less expensive option depends on a few factors, including size, quality of materials used, and location.

Clean regularly with mild soap and water, and retract during severe weather to prevent damage.

Aluminum patio roofs can make noise during rainstorms, though how much noise they make depends on how heavy it’s raining and if the roof is insulated or not. Light rain falling on your roof might sound soothing but if you live in an area with serious and consistent rainfall, the novelty of the sound might wear off. In any case, the rain you'll hear shouldn't sound louder than a normal conversation or air conditioner, about 50 dB to 55 dB.

Hurricane fabric is a temporary form of hurricane protection that offers an alternative to boarding up windows or installing traditional storm panels. It is installed over windows, doors, and other openings before a storm. When installed properly, hurricane fabric is tested and proven to protect homes from Category 5 hurricanes, which can have winds over 157 miles per hour. It is intended to block the majority of wind and rain and protect against water, debris, and projectile damage. While the fabric is exceptionally durable, windows can still break if hit directly by high-velocity debris. Compared to other options, hurricane fabric is more protective than hurricane window film. Boarding up windows is more labor-intensive and requires storing heavy plywood, while hurricane screens are permanently attached to your home. To further increase protection, you can take additional steps like securing outdoor items and fortifying your home's foundation.
