"I had the outside of my house painted be Carnival. Estimate was printed out during the initial visit. I signed immediately due to the great price. When they arrived, they were so respectful and friendly. Easy to talk to, and I didnt have to give any special instructions on what I'd like. They replaced rotten boards, more than what was estimated. The guys were super detailed oriented. I mean, they cleaned everything, caulked perfect lines, and painted perfect lines. I TRIED to find imperfections and I couldn't. Window world really messed up the window trim on my windows and these guys fixed it all. They didnt seem rushed at all. They took their time. They even replaced my entire chimney because it was rotten more than we could see initially. If you want QUALITY work with second guessing anything, choose this company. When the job was completed, I had questions about my estimate, I asked the site manager, and within a few minutes I had 2 main guys calling me trying to resolve my questions. They REALLY do care about their reputation and company. I'm thoroughly impressed and I've already told everyone I come in contact with about my house and have shown them pictures of everything. Thanks Carnival! You guys rock!"

"The Custom Painting painters moved my furniture, covered it carefully, taped off the areas for trim and did a great job of coverage of my walls. I was very pleased with their careful treatment of my furniture and carpets. I’ve hired Custom Painting again recently to do more painting in another part of my home. Great company with great people!"

"Mr. Lopez is my go-to person for all painting and wood construction work. I have hired him for 5+ jobs in the past 10 years. For this latest work, he repainted a 4-bedroom 2-bathroom house (walls only), repainted the exterior house including shutters, trim and door, repaired rotted fascia board on the garage, and rebuilt a wood deck and stained it. What I love about Lopez Painting is his consistency: (1) immediate, fair written estimates (2) ability to schedule the job quickly (3) work gets done thoroughly as it seems he concentrates on one job at a time (4) no subs (5) extremely hard working, works more than a full day (6) cleans up."

"John Kelly, showed up promptly at the appointed time and proceeded immediately to work. He helped move the potted plants and patio furniture. The house never looked better. I will hire him again when it comes time to pressure wash the house again next year."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Exterior paints contain more volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, making them dangerous when used indoors. Without the free ventilation of the great outdoors, it can take longer for the fumes to dissipate than interior paint. While you may notice the smell lessening more quickly, you should be wary of paint fumes inside for 48 to 72 hours after it dries.

Applying a sealer or topcoat after staining wood is highly recommended, though not always strictly required. A sealer protects the wood from moisture, UV rays, and weather-related issues, which is especially important for outdoor surfaces like decks and fences. It also enhances the stain's durability, prevents fading over time, and gives the wood a cleaner, more professional-looking finish. For some indoor applications, a sealer may not be necessary, depending on the type of stain used and the level of protection needed. It's always best to check the stain manufacturer's recommendations and consider the wood's intended use and exposure when deciding whether to apply a sealer.

You can refresh a painted deck by either giving it a thorough cleaning or refinishing the deck altogether. Chipped or faded paint, as well as extensive damage, often calls for a new finish. To do this, remove the original coat of paint with a sander and add either a new coat of paint or a stain to protect the wood below.

Staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan and protect it from the elements. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it is not impervious to damage from moisture, sun exposure, splintering, fading, and rot over time. Applying a protective finish creates a shield that preserves the wood's strength and appearance, potentially extending its life by five to 10 years.

When choosing a finish, it's helpful to understand the difference between a sealer and a stain. A sealer sits on top of the wood, whereas a combination stain and sealer soaks into the top layer. Because it penetrates the wood, a stain generally offers better protection against UV damage and rot and lasts significantly longer. For the best results that also preserve the wood's natural color, consider using a near-translucent stain.

To maintain protection, plan on reapplying the stain or sealer every two to three years, either as a DIY project or by hiring a professional.

Wood stain does go bad, but it will last in the can for between three and six years, provided you use proper storage techniques. Storing wood stain in open containers or in extremely low or high temperatures will cause your wood stain to become unusable much more quickly. Water- and latex-based wood stains typically last for just two to four years, while oil-based wood stains can last for three to six years.
