"I canNOT say enough good things about Ron Forest and his team. The first floor of my home and several areas on the second floor needed attention due to cracks that had formed following foundation work I'd had performed several years ago. Initially I'd planned to go with another company for the drywall repair, but when they couldn't fit my house into their schedule, Ron stepped right up. He was right on time for the estimate, and it came in far lower than I'd expected, then guided me with the paint choices as this was the first time I'd needed to choose any on such a large scale. The father / son team who did all the work did so VERY efficiently and professionally. The drywall and sheetrock look amazing, the paint is perfect, and the team went above and beyond by helping my mother install a VERY stubborn towel rack. I'm absolutely thrilled with the results, and look forward to having Carnival return to help me re-do other rooms in my house. Thanks so much, Ron!!!"

"Custom Painting does quality work. They patched about 15 holes in our walls after a repiping. They also cleaned and painted the ceiling in our den. We were very pleased with their work. I would recommend them to everyone."

"Excellent. His team removed the old stain and applied new darker stain to kitchen cupboards. They bubbled the kitchen area, including the contents areas of cupboards and drawers. Very little mess. Very quick and professional work. Great value for the money paid."

"The job went extremely well. Louis Lopez met us at the house within 15 minutes of our appointment and we went around identifying repair points that we had found. He pointed out additional areas that needed fixing. We requested treated wood be used for repairs and a high quality paint with mildecide be used. Louis computed an estimate while we were standing there. The estimate was a bit higher than expected, but not totally out of line with what we expected. As the company was well recommended by Angie's List, we agreed to have them perform the work. We had to wait several weeks to get started as Lopez had a prior job to finish, and then we had house guests in. Finally, rainy weather in Houston prevented Lopez from starting on the targeted day. On the first decent weather day the painters arrived and efficiently began work. They took few breaks and completed all the work in two days. This is a 2700 sq ft, one story house with brick veneer and wooden trim. The garage is sided with wood."

"Mr. Kelly was very reliable, he called when he had to be late for his appointment. He pressure washed the entire house, driveway and pool deck and did a great job. He is personable and takes pride in his work. I thought that his rates were reasonable for all that he did."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

You can refresh a painted deck by either giving it a thorough cleaning or refinishing the deck altogether. Chipped or faded paint, as well as extensive damage, often calls for a new finish. To do this, remove the original coat of paint with a sander and add either a new coat of paint or a stain to protect the wood below.

If you don’t treat a cedar fence, it will turn from reddish brown to gray over time. You can keep the cedar from graying and retain its attractive, deep red color by sealing your cedar fence with a stain that keeps the wood’s oils in and serves as a barrier against the sun’s UV rays.

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.

Wood stain does go bad, but it will last in the can for between three and six years, provided you use proper storage techniques. Storing wood stain in open containers or in extremely low or high temperatures will cause your wood stain to become unusable much more quickly. Water- and latex-based wood stains typically last for just two to four years, while oil-based wood stains can last for three to six years.

It is definitely worth sanding a deck to ensure the wood absorbs new stain. Sanding a deck removes the outer layers of aging wood, allowing the stain to penetrate. It also gives a fresh look to the entire surface as part of the deck refinishing process. Without sanding, your stain or sealant is less likely to absorb into the wood. While sanding a deck is a time-intensive project, the rewards are noticeable and long-lasting.
