"Howard was here on time, gave me a free estimate, carefully explaining exactly what was happening with my very old toilet we discussed repairing vs replacing. I decided to replace, which he completed promptly, cleaning up before leaving. His patience with questions, understanding, and kindness were refreshing. Great job!"

"SoftH2O is a family-owned company by Candace and Paul. I was inquiring to Candace for some of the general knowledge of home Water Softener and filtration systems. She has educated me on almost all of the areas on the same and answered every question I asked her, which gives me the confidence to choose the best one. Now, when Candace said that she would give twin separate big tanks - one for filtration and one for the water softener at a lesser price than a single tank system and the same set of product and labor warranty tenure then I reconnected her to book the appointment. Paul is a very hard and smart working guy. He has installed the whole system in a super compact and quick way. His understanding of the water softener system is unmatched. I highly recommend them for the installation of the whole house water system."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Soft water is better for your hair. The minerals in hard water can dry out hair, make it brittle, and leave a film on the hair and scalp that may cause irritation. Hard water also doesn't rinse out shampoo and conditioner effectively, which can lead to product buildup that makes hair look dull and limp. You may also find you need to use more shampoo to get a good lather in hard water.

Hard water doesn’t hurt, but it might feel more abrasive, especially if you have sensitive skin. It’s also about how your skin feels after bathing. You might feel as though you have a sticky film over your body because you do—it’s all that soapy residue left behind because the hard water can’t rinse it off completely.

The chemicals in a water softener can wear down the anode rod in the heater and shorten its life span. However, for most people, the benefits of the softener outweigh this potential drawback.

Have a plumber inspect the anode rod annually for damage, as replacing the anode rod is far less expensive than replacing the entire water heater.

You can use a commercial water repellent treatment for glass on your shower doors to prevent water spots. Take care to only apply the product to glass. Letting air circulate also helps prevent water spots, as water is less likely to remain on the glass for a long time with good air circulation. Run your vent fan, open a window, and leave the shower door open for about half an hour after using the shower.

A water softener is a worthwhile investment if you live in an area with hard water. While hard water is safe to drink, it contains minerals like calcium and magnesium that can cause significant problems over time. These minerals build up inside pipes, reducing water flow and eventually corroding the plumbing system, which can lead to leaks and a shortened lifespan. Hard water also damages fixtures and appliances, potentially resulting in costly repairs. Additionally, it makes soaps and detergents less effective, meaning you'll use more product to get things clean. By installing a water softener, you can prevent these issues. The initial investment is often recouped through long-term savings, including lower energy bills, reduced appliance and plumbing maintenance, and spending less on soap and cleaning supplies. Other benefits include cleaner linens, dishes, and clothing, as well as softer water that is gentler on your skin and hair. In some areas, a water softener can also increase your home's value, making it a valuable long-term investment.
