"We are extremely happy with the service we received from everyone we worked with at Natural Stone Design. We originally had asked for a quote on a quartz product to replace our existing countertops, but Reagan and Tina Winn introduced us to some natural granite options that were actually more affordable. They also helped us pick out a new, stainless-steel, single basin sink, which is much more suited to our needs. We were able to pick out the granite slabs, make an appt. for the measurements, and get the new countertops installed within 3 weeks of our initial visit to their location. We saved some money by doing the demo of the existing countertops ourselves, so everything was prepped when the installers arrived. We had approximately 62 sq ft of granite and the undermount sink installed in just a few hours, and the bar top, which measures approx. 11 feet long x 12 inches wide, with two 45 degree angles, is all one piece. There are only two small seams at the front and back of the sink cutout, and they are virtually invisible. The Winn's also recommended other companies and/or individuals who could help with the plumbing, backsplash, and general contracting work, all of whom were top-notch professionals, and we will rate them in separate reviews. Overall, we had an exceptionally fantastic experience working with everyone involved.

"I had two countertops and lighting replaced in my bathrooms, and the overhead light in my garage replaced. The Carpenter’s Hand team did a great job. And the cost was much better than other quotes. Unlike other companies that you never hear from once the job is done, Jeff makes sure you are happy with everything before he considers it done. I will definitely use them again."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

The best way to save money on countertop installation is to choose an affordable material. For example, if you have a busy kitchen and need durability, choose a more affordable but lasting material like granite countertops. Likewise, if you don't use your countertops often, you can use a softer material that costs less than more sturdy ones.

Another way to cut costs is to remove and dispose of the existing countertops yourself, if possible. That way, countertop installers can get straight to placing the new feature, reducing labor costs.

Caesarstone® offers both quartz and porcelain counters, which are types of engineered stone countertops. Generally, you can expect to pay $50 to $200 per square foot for quartz countertops. If you decide to go with Caesarstone® quartz counters, then you’ll pay $75 to $125 per square foot, which is in the mid-range of what most quartz manufacturers charge.

Additionally, Caesarstone® is typically less expensive than quartzite, which is a natural quartz countertop that costs $80 to $220 per square foot. Depending on the Caesarstone® countertop you choose, you may spend significantly more on quartzite counters.

Granite countertops cost an average of $3,250 compared to $2,250 for tile countertops. Granite is also harder to DIY than tile, given its weight and bulk, which increases the overall labor cost of installation. Over time, both types of countertops may need sealing to remain resistant to water, heat, and other common kitchen elements.

The short answer is yes. A stone-safe, pH-neutral cleaner and a soft cloth are all you need to clean and maintain terrazzo. Harsh cleaners aren’t necessary. You can also apply stone polish every few months to refresh your terrazzo.

It’s recommended that you clean your terrazzo countertops daily to remove dust before it begins to build up. Dust and other debris can cause small scratches over time. If you spill something, be sure to clean it up immediately before stains set in.

You should use glue and screws when installing butcher block countertops. Opt for a construction adhesive or wood glue applied along the top edge of your base cabinets. For added strength, install support brackets on the base cabinets, then secure your countertop with screws. Make sure you only tighten the screws to the point where the butcher block is snug against the cabinet and don’t overtighten.
