"This is a top notch family owned and operated business. Joseluis and his crew have done many home projects for me, and every time they leave I manage to come up with something else I want/need done at my older home:) Fast, friendly, reliable services at very reasonable prices- what more could you ask for? "We are extremely happy with the service we received from everyone we worked with at Natural Stone Design. We originally had asked for a quote on a quartz product to replace our existing countertops, but Reagan and Tina Winn introduced us to some natural granite options that were actually more affordable. They also helped us pick out a new, stainless-steel, single basin sink, which is much more suited to our needs. We were able to pick out the granite slabs, make an appt. for the measurements, and get the new countertops installed within 3 weeks of our initial visit to their location. We saved some money by doing the demo of the existing countertops ourselves, so everything was prepped when the installers arrived. We had approximately 62 sq ft of granite and the undermount sink installed in just a few hours, and the bar top, which measures approx. 11 feet long x 12 inches wide, with two 45 degree angles, is all one piece. There are only two small seams at the front and back of the sink cutout, and they are virtually invisible. The Winn's also recommended other companies and/or individuals who could help with the plumbing, backsplash, and general contracting work, all of whom were top-notch professionals, and we will rate them in separate reviews. Overall, we had an exceptionally fantastic experience working with everyone involved.

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Quartzite is more expensive than granite, largely because of its rarity. Granite is naturally more common. A granite slab generally costs $40 to $60 per square foot (excluding super-rare types), while quartzite slabs cost anywhere from $50 to $150 per square foot.

With both materials, it’s usually more affordable to purchase stones that are readily available in your location. You may need to import other stones, which come at a higher cost.

Both quartz and granite are durable, long-lasting countertop materials that can last for decades, potentially the lifetime of your kitchen, with proper maintenance. Quartz is generally considered more durable than granite due to its nonporous nature. However, it can be damaged by extreme heat. Granite is also very durable but is a porous material that requires regular resealing to extend its lifespan and prevent stains. On the other hand, granite is more resistant to heat than quartz.

Start your search for a reliable countertop contractor online, and look for companies that have high ratings from past customers. Check each of these companies on the Better Business Bureau website and rule out any that have a high number of complaints or an overall low rating. Next, contact the remaining companies and ask for a list of references and examples of past work. It’s best to choose a provider that has references that are still pleased with the work years later and one that provides professional-looking examples of how it serves its customers.

If you are building a laminate countertop from scratch, instead of buying premade laminate countertops, you can use particle board underneath the laminate. You will need to use a sheet of particle board for the substrate, along with four-inch strips underneath the edges. For proper installation, make sure that any seams are level and use a sander as necessary before installing the laminate.

Yes, you can use paint if you want to refresh your tile countertops. However, you must be mindful of the type of paint you use. Look for options explicitly created for tile that are also waterproof and durable. Over time, the paint will chip, so this is not considered a long-term solution for busy kitchens.
