Communication was excellent, he showed up on time and completed each phase of the project. The house was wired exactly as we had discussed and all my equipment is now installed and working perfectly. The den which has our main TV and sound system has a 2" conduit running inside the wall so that any replacement or additional wiring can be done effortlessly. The cable, ethernet, and speaker wire he used were all of top quality. Satellite and Internet installers had no problem tying their equipment in. All their equipment went straight into the AV closet and the outside cabling they required was all set up. Seamless.... I'm still waiting on it. The delay in installing the furnace was fine with me as it gave me time to put a fresh coat of paint in the closet! When they were finished they cleaned everything up and David explained everything to me, also showing me how to use the new thermostat. I would recommend them to my friends and family. The people on the phone exhibited a high level of customer service, and when Carrie (the job supervisor) came out, she was very thorough and knowledgeable. I pride myself on being able to read people, and I knew I'd found the right company to fix my roof. They gave me what I thought was an extremely reasonable price, and came out the next working day (a Monday) and did the work. The workers came in and installed the new flashing around the chimney and sealed the vent pipe and replaced missing screws. The job was done in under one day, and Carrie, the supervisor, came out to look over the job. She pointed out the repairs that had been done, and I could see that they were done right. I told him what I had done and that I felt it was something I had done to cause the furnace to not turn on. I explained I had power to the furnace. This all happened at 8 pm on a Sunday evening. Edgar checked the furnace out and apparently I had shorted out an overflow switch and that caused a fuse to blow. Edgar replaced the fuse and fixed the wiring. Edgar told me he came right down to my home because he was concerned it was going to get cold that evening with a front coming in and he was glad he could make the repair. I told Edgar how much I appreciated his help and asked him for the bill. Edgar told me it was no charge. He sounded experienced and wanted to help us out by giving us a "great deal" on the price per square foot for installing the wood laminate. I can't help but to keep thinking after this whole experience: You get what you pay for! After some delays with the shipment from Lowes we finally got the product, set the date and he said it would be 2 days to install. When taking the preliminary measurements to see if we had enough product I told him what the other contractors had said for measurements and then he told us what he said the measurements would be. His was higher. I had waited nine days for the product and wanted this to be done so we called Lowes to see how much sq. footage was in each box to see if it would be enough. When I told them what Lowes said he replied " that will be enough". He now said that this was not what he said and that it wasn't his fault we ran out for the install and my reply is "If you didn't agree that it was enough why didn't you tell me to order more in the meantime". This explains the blameless attitude and lying that this inept contractor practices. Wait, it gets worse. So when we did run out he said he would order more for us at his discount and that when he gets it he will contact us. He lied. Four days later he admitted that he never ordered the product and that he was still waiting to hear from his guy at Lowes. Funny, after I went to Lowes it was ordered and processed the next day and got it in a week. I told him of all of his discrepancies that needed to be fixed in the meantime while we were waiting for his "order" of our flooring to come in. They were: The stairs nose molding was nailed down by Jon leaving three small holes in the wood. It's obvious and when I had some other contractor come to inspect the stair nose he said the hole is not going away and that he should have just glued it. Since he was from Lowes and the product was ordered through them I think they were right on the money. Jon's install ruined the product from the beginning. His cutting of the product especially in the closets was jagged. Why couldn't they have cut a straighter line? They left a half inch gap between one of the pieces near the master bathroom. They left a quarter inch gap at the ends of the stair steps on about half of them. Measuring to be flush is a challenge for Jon and his crew. The laminate install was below quality but before that we also hired him to strip the sealer off our slate tile and reseal it. He did restrip the tile and reseal it but we noticed because of the poor job by the last contractor that the grout needed to be cleaned as well. So we hired him to do that. He left some guy to take care of that who in turn got his wife or girlfriend to help out. They did most of it but near the end you can see where they stopped and didn't do the rest. I was working outside and didn't get to see the final product but in the morning I did tell Jon and told him again later in text but he didn't care. He even said in later text that it was finished. What? "You never came by to inspect the finished product" I said. How can you judge otherwise? He took $75 for a fix that he was supposed to do to my front door threshold grout. I'm sure he enjoyed that because he never talked about it until I reminded him in a text. I told him that me and my family were moving on a Friday and we would be thirsty so I asked if he could hook up the water line in the new refrigerator and I would pay him back. This was in addition to all the other fixes he was supposed to do as explained above. He never showed up that Friday and when I asked him why he didn't show or call he said he had transmission trouble. He then said he would show up Monday to fix the loose ends while waiting for the laminate. He again never showed or called. Tuesday he texted that he would be there between 2 and 3 pm. He never showed or called. I waited for him twice and he didn't bother to call or show. The Friday night was the one that made me mad the most. My family and me were sitting there hot, sweaty, and thirsty from working in the sun all day. If he wasn't going to make it he could have called. We would have picked up some cold drinks on the way. Again, he didn't care. If he refutes all of this I have the texts to prove it. After all of this he texted me that his not showing didn't inconvenience me in any way. My time is apparently not important. He said he would refund $40 for the job he didn't finish. Never did and never will along with the $75 for the front door threshold grout job. While Jon's employee was cleaning the grout late that night he told me that Jon had the keys to enter the house and instead of turning around and returning the keys so his employees could get in he had them pry open the door. Feel good knowing that about your contractor? Thief as well as immoral. If Jon wants to rebut this review I will show the pictures I have of the work he did to anybody if they want to see them. Just contact me at jdvolosin@yahoo.com. Lastly, Jon told me in a text that he did me a "favor" for doing the job he did and at the price quoted. Really? Jon you never had to take the job offered so don't whine about your commitments. I could not have him return to the job after THREE no shows and unwillingness to refund (and also lie about it) for work not finished. I think that shows a person who you can't count on to do what they say anyway. I even told him I was going to leave this review and by not refunding the money I would just add that to the list as well. Didn't seem to care but thinks he did nothing wrong. The sole proprietor's name is Steve Lee. We hired him to paint and install tile in our newly purchased house in Del Valle, Texas. He came recommended by our real estate agent and we thought that he must be OK.So he came in as the lowest bidder and we gave him the contract. He told us it would only take about a week to a week and a half for completion. It took almost three weeks. He KNEW that we were installing slate tile downstairs, ceramic tile upstairs, and having the entire interior of the house painted. He first painted the entire interior and after he took notes on what we wanted, he screwed it up! He painted a stairway wall (which is a pretty big wall) the wrong color. He then proceeded to say that the cost to us was another $50 for the extra paint that he bought to paint the wall. I corrected him in saying that it was his fault for painting the wall the wrong color and that is why he didn't have enough paint to paint the rest of the project. The quality of the paint job was mixed. Great in some parts, horrible in others, such as not pushing down hard enough to cover the wall with paint in the textured finish, missing parts altogether, and not covering the old paint in some trim areas. Unfortunately, we only found out about this when we started to take a closer look at the job after he was gone. I took the quick glance over during the final walk through and should have taken my time. That was my fault. He then proceeeded to do the slate tile. To get the bid he said that he would provide the mortar for the job (me and my fiancee heard him say this) and at the end he said after discussion back and forth that he would only cover half the cost. He lied about this. Every DETAIL about the job should be drawn up if you decide to take on this inept contractor. He again did a so-so job on laying the slate tile down because the tile's heights in the mortar were uneven. After checking into this I found out that it is difficult to get the slate tile heights uniform because of the nature of the uneven thickness of real stone, but a few areas should have been redone with other pieces to see if a better fit could have been accomplished. This led up to the worst part of the job. We bought the sealer and enhancer for the tile and he laid it down incorrectly. He did it with a mop instead of a sponge and the amount of pools on top of the tile were painfully obvious. What a mess! He told us that this was normal and there was no way around it. We took his word at first but after looking into it he was again wrong. He is a conniving sorry sack. We had to hire someone else to strip it and reapply the sealer the correct way with a sponge after his job was over. Because of the excessive amount of sealer he applied, the grout collected dust with the sealer and turned it white instead of the dark charcoal it was originally. We had to hire the same people to clean the grout. Why didn't we call him back to get him to redo it? I will get to that below.During the final walk through, he was paid and additional $85 to paint the upstairs master bedroom closet because we had previously thought that we would paint it. So before he was to accomplish this we told him we needed it painted before Friday which was move in day. He was supposed to do this on the Tuesday before but he had to go out of town to El Paso. He said he would get his helper to do the job on Wednesday. He left no indication by phone that he wasn't able to do this and let us know THURSDAY. We had no way of knowing what was going on because we lived almost an hour and a half away and was not checking on the house. So we painted the closet ourselves and asked for the $85 back. We also wanted to talk about the discrepancies (paint, tile sealer, etc.). He stopped communicating with us at this point and could not be reached no matter how much I texted or called even though he said we could call him for any problems. He took the $85 and didn't seem to care even after I called him dishonest for taking it for work not done. He also: Mixed the mortar with a paddle inside the house getting tiny specks of mortar on the paint, he used our cooler to rinse off his mortar soaked tools, and he screwed up the threshold grout at the front door. And the saddest part about this guy is that he has a drinking problem. We didn't know he was drinking on the job! He had mentioned rum and coke as a way to relax before. He threw away a Captain Morgan's rum bottle in our recycling container along with other construction debris. He didn't even try to hide it. He was the only person working on our house. He showed up at my fiancees work to talk with her one day and she said the liquor on his breath was overpowering. Think again about hiring this guy.Our real estate agent was shocked about all this and does not recommend him anymore. Me and my fiancee have photographs of the work he did and we pride ourselves as being honest people. I have read many similar stories from others about him now that I have joined Angie's List. Just in case this "contractor" tries to rebutt this review I am willing to send anybody the pictures via email. Just contact jdvolosin@yahoo.com. Save yourself the time and expense of fixing his shoddy workmanship. This is why he says he is and does not have to be licensed and/or bonded. "I paid Best Austin Handyman over $24,000 and I provided 95% of the demolition and materials and did all of the painting. The general contractor, Barrett Criscoe, said work could be completed without permits by a crew within 3 weeks beginning December 4th, 2017. This job did require permits and it took six weeks before the plans were right and accepted by the city during which I had no kitchen. Work began February 7th, 2018. It appears this nightmare won't be over until resolved in court. I fired them on April 24th. They did substandard work and charged me for things that were listed in my estimate, but that they either didn't do, did incorrectly, or very poorly. When they began work they would work for a few hours and then not show up for days or even weeks at a time. Barrett had the job foreman, Eric Gazur, and project manager, Nick Martin, do the electrical work that was supposed to be done by Andy Keil of Live Oak Electric. Those that did the electrical work appear to have been unqualified, unlicensed, and unsupervised. I found out that their work was not done correctly. Andy Keil refused to fix the electrical issues, telling me he had only been paid $500 to pull the permit as a favor to Barrett. Barrett wouldn't talk to me, handing me off to Megan Walker in accounting. When I asked for an itemized list of charges, she gave me a list with each item priced significantly higher than quoted in the estimate and insistence on charges for work never performed. They would not fix their electrical mistakes unless I paid them an additional $2800. A friend sent her son-in-law, a master electrician, to look at the electrical work they had done. He told me what they had done was unsafe and had been done illegally. I hired a legitimate and ethical electrician to fix numerous issues. So far I've spent $6,000 to correct shoddy work including corrected breakers in electrical panel, smoke detectors that were not properly daisy chained, loose wiring in attic, an unshielded live wire that was attached to the electrical panel, dishwasher and garbage disposal that were wired together into one switch, electrical sockets no longer working on one wall of the living room, two walls in the breakfast area, an outside light and outlet, the addition of required light in the attic and corrected wiring in attic to garage exterior light. Other contractors vented dryer from laundry room to exterior, repaired drywall and tile, and finished the other two sides of a beam I paid BAH to cover in drywall. They still need to hang the upper cabinets, move and vent the microwave, install toe kicks, shelving, and backsplash. I've already paid BAH for all of theseitems. For this extensive list of items to be completed or repaired Barrett Criscoe offered a refund of $1,000, which I declined. I've reported everyone involved to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. I've been told that each person involved can expect fines of up to $10,000 and revocation of licensure. This fiasco has caused extreme stress and loss of sleep, affecting my health. They took advantage of my initial lack of construction knowledge. I documented everything in my personal daily log and recommend anyone using these people do the same., or better yet, staying far away from everyone listed in this review. My goal is to save others from going through what I have."

Building a custom closet costs about $2,000, on average. Because many types, sizes, and designs are available, the cost to build custom closets ranges from $250 to $6,000 or more. A reach-in closet is on the lower end of the price range from about $250 to $1,500, compared to a walk-in closet at $750 to $3,500 or a wardrobe at the high end between $1,500 and $6,000 or more.
The main difference between a closet and a wardrobe is that a closet is a separate room for general storage with its own door, and a wardrobe can be either built-in or freestanding place to store clothing. A walk-in or reach-in closet connected to a bedroom often serves the same purpose as a wardrobe by primarily storing clothes and shoes. A built-in wardrobe often does not have doors and leaves clothes exposed to view, whereas a standalone wardrobe usually has doors.
You may need a building permit to add a closet, depending on the size and kind of work required to install it. The most likely scenario requiring a permit involves changing the structure of the house and performing electrical work for closet lighting. A permit can cost between $100 and $450. If you’re installing a smaller reach-in closet, a permit may not be required, but always check with your local municipality and consult a closet designer or builder.
Different types of closets are defined mostly by size. A few different types of closets include:
A reach-in closet is a smaller closet that you can stand in front of and reach everything inside it. Aside from the size, the doors and the level of drywall finish are typically the largest price factors.
A walk-in closet can be anything from a small 5-by-5 feet closet that has a narrow walkway with shelves on both sides to a 100 square foot bedroom-sized closet with shelving along the walls and plenty of room to move around in.
A built-in wardrobe often does not have a door and leaves the clothes and other contents open to the room, whereas a closet usually has a door to separate it from the rest of the room.
Yes, building a custom closet can definitely add value to your home. Creating a more useful and pleasing space to your home, especially a custom closet for prospective home buyers to imagine as their own, is likely to increase the value. However, avoid overdoing it with a closet that takes up too much space that’s otherwise more useful as living space, or paying extra for overly lavish materials and finishes that aren’t likely to add more value than they cost.
