"This professional tree man does such a good job! His assessment of the condition of our trees is always conservative yet realistic, he is on time for assessment and work, his work ethic is great. And he leaves our yard clean and finished."

"I had two very tall sycamore trees removed from my front yard by Ortiz Brothers Tree Service. Mr. Ortiz arrived at 8:00 am and got to work right away. His assistant arrived 90 minutes later. They did a splendid job of cutting, grinding roots and trunks, and cleaning up the yard. The price to do the work was extremely reasonable. I couldn’t be happier with the project. I highly recommend Ortiz Brothers Tree Service."

"Best landscaper I’ve hired in my 78 years on this planet. He quoted me a price 1/3 of what other quoted and did and excellent job. He’s coming back next month to do my massive flower bed."

"I asked Bairon and his team to level an area on my land for a pool. We ended up not putting up the pool but Bairon's team had already nearly completed the work. He was very understanding of me halting/changing the original job and was a pleasure to work with overall. Everyone was very nice to interact with as well. Thanks Bairon!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Any cutting of tree roots can hurt or kill a tree, which is why it's recommended you don’t do it unless the roots are damaging or invasive on a nearby structure like your home. You should never cut more than 15 percent of above-ground tree roots at one time. If you have any questions about cutting tree roots, contact your local arborist.

Some trees, such as silver maples, birches, sycamores, and scotch pines, shed their bark naturally. If your tree is not one that does this, it might have fallen prey to pests, fungi, or diseases. It could also simply be suffering from an extreme weather change, such as a snowstorm or heat wave. If you’re still stumped, consulting with a pro can help you diagnose your tree’s specific problem.

Completely topping a plum tree is a risky business. Cut too much, and you’ll kill your tree. That said, you do need to trim the top of your tree to encourage bushy growth, maintain your tree’s vase shape, and limit size.

A plum tree's central leader (or trunk) should never extend more than 3 feet above the highest branch. When you first plant your tree, cut the central leader so it’s 2 to 3 feet tall. As it grows, cut it back 12 to 20 inches until it reaches its desired height. Never prune more than one-third of the new growth.

No. Most of the time, suckers are only a sign that the tree is experiencing stress. However, they can also be the canary in the coal mine, letting you know that something else is stressing your tree. If you have lots of suckers on your tree, calling in an arborist or a tree care expert is always a good call to determine the cause and develop a solution that de-stresses your tree.

Maple trees start the growing season by developing small groups of red flowers where the tree's fruit, the samaras, will appear in the coming weeks. Later in spring, the samaras, which many call whirlybirds or similar names, develop into single-winged seed carriers that spin when falling or drifting in the wind.
