PLM Restoration is a full-service disaster restoration company that performs all phases of water damage restoration, including water mitigation and home build-back. There are many water removal and cleanup companies, so we understand how overwhelming the decision can be to choose who is best for the job. At PLM Restoration, we provide our customers with complete flood damage cleanup services, water damage home repair, and a comprehensive examination of the destruction in order to ensure the highest quality home renovation and repair in Houston. We value our customer’s feedback, and we rely on word of mouth, so customer satisfaction is our top priority. We are more than a water restoration company; we also handle all communication with the insurance companies so you don’t have to. We don’t get paid until you get paid, so getting you fair value for your water damaged home and belongings is another priority. Sometimes, insurance companies don't like to give you fair value, but with our team on the job, we make sure they do. We even provide our customers with water damage restoration tips, water damage cleanup tips as well as provide our thorough water cleanup services.

"Worst Experience I ever had. This company charged my insurance 16k for repairs aftewintertime. storm. Once they received my money I stopped hearing from them. The work performed was extremely delayed, low quality, and with cheap materials. Please do your research on this company. Over the past 15 years they have changed names multiple times. They have been robbing houston homeowners for years and need to be boycotted. To this day my kitchen is still not complete and it has been almost 6 months. Thank God my damage was minimal ( small amount of drywall, paint, cabinets, and countertops) and my house is still livable. These people have definitely taught me a good lesson about dealing with shady contractors. Do not spend a dime with this company for fall for their sales pitch."

Hardwood Flooring questions, answered by experts

It’s better to lift and set down furniture; sliding it across the floor is more likely to cause damage to both the floor and the furniture itself. For very heavy items, consider using a dolly with rubber wheels. It is possible to purchase sliders designed specifically for gliding furniture across floors, but you still risk causing permanent damage to flooring if you use them.

If you have a concrete subfloor, you must secure the carpet padding with adhesive or glue. However, if you have a wooden subfloor, use staples instead. Removing a glued-down carpet can be difficult and time-consuming, so it’s best to avoid glue when possible.

Installing carpet over carpet may negatively impact the resale value of your home. While it offers a quick fix, potential buyers may view it as a temporary solution rather than a long-term investment in quality flooring. Properly installed and maintained flooring adds value to a home, so removing the existing carpet and installing new flooring may be a better option to attract prospective buyers and maximize resale value.

Laminate flooring takes about 24 to 48  hours to settle. Before this, planks are not completely acclimated to your home, and walking on them could cause shifting and permanent damage to the flooring. You should allow floorboards to acclimate for 48 to 72 hours before installing so that they can adjust to your home’s humidity and temperature levels, but they will continue to acclimate and settle after installation. For this reason, avoid placing any furniture in the room for 72 hours after installation.

Your floors will continue to settle for a few months after installation, becoming less bouncy as they rest.

There are a few different types of finishes to choose from for the final step of the project.

Water-based polyurethane sealants emit fewer odors and fumes but dry quickly, which can pose a challenge when trying to get a smooth coat. Oil-based polyurethane sealants let out more odors and fumes into the air (it’s especially important to wear a respirator if you choose this type), but they take longer to dry, which can be more forgiving during the finishing step.

Some may prefer wood oil to polyurethane because rather than creating a layer, it becomes part of the wood. Wood oil takes longer to dry, and is less resistant to wear and tear; however, it creates a natural-looking result by enhancing the grain of the wood.
