"Aaron Utter, owner, oversaw the entire project and custom cut the stone caps on site. He gave ample notice of when the job was to be done, did so at a very fair price and cleaned up and left the grounds as if no one had been there. He could not have done a better job. This was an important project for our community since our entrance walls reflect who we are. We could not afford shoddy craftsmanship. He gave us a reference,a homeowner, who was very satisfied. We were convinced once we saw the work he had done for the homeowner that he was our man.

"After having worked with several general contractor for the last 20 years, I couldn't be happier with the huge retaining wall project completed at Bridgeport Lake! The entire team was professional, reliable, and completely transparent about the timeline from day one. They stayed right on schedule and delivered exceptional craftsmanship that looks incredible and gives me total peace of mind regarding my projects's drainage and stability. If you need quality work done in the DFW and surrounding areas, I highly recommend them!""

"We had a few bumps along the way. The patio done a little different than was what I was expecting. Luis' team came out, pulled out the pavers and re-installed to my satisfaction. That is all you can ask for in 2019. Someone who does the job at a fair price AND does to the satisfaction of the customer. Thanks"

"I hired Blake and company to pour a 15x38 stained and stamped patio. The cement pour, color and stamp turned out very nice. The problem I have is instead of letting the concrete sit for about 2 weeks, he sealed it after 3 days. It looked horrible as the moisture came up through the concrete and left white marks everywhere. His answer was more sealer (3 coats) and still looks bad. This was to be done by 12/1/18 and he wants to wait until spring to finish by putting another coat of sealer on it. I've researched and talked to other concrete installers and it will cost me $1164.00 to fix as sealer was put on too early. The sealer has to be stripped, let dry and only 2 thin coats reapplied. NTX has directed me to have another company fix the problem and has refunded me the money to make me whole and not be out any more cash above our contract."

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

While vinyl is the least costly material for building a retaining wall, the most cost-effective method is to use wood or concrete blocks for a DIY retaining wall under 2 feet tall. Wood is inexpensive but lasts 20 years or more with care. Concrete can cost a little more but is stronger and will last longer with less maintenance.

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.

Most railroad tie retaining walls have a life span of 20 to 30 years, though you may need to replace your wall sooner if it’s repeatedly exposed to heavy rain, runoff, and excess moisture. Railroad ties are typically treated with creosote, which makes them much more durable than untreated wood. Though they last longer, they don’t last forever. For the most longevity, make sure your retaining wall has a sturdy base and steel reinforcements. You should also install drainage to direct water away from the wall.

They prevent soil erosion, add flat space, and enhance property aesthetics.

Generally, a railroad tie retaining wall consisting of a single line of ties should be between 3 and 4 feet tall—and the height often tops out at around 6 feet. You can go taller, but you may need additional footings and reinforcements, including a second layer of railroad ties to support the added weight of the soil it’s holding back.
