A few things went right (see reviews for Allen Drywall, Forster Tile, Wilson Plumbing, Acme Glass and the Kitchen and Bath Showplace). A lot more went wrong. Some are listed under the review for Brazos Valley Floor and Design, TAP Electric and Wager Glass. The focus of this review is the disastrous painting done by the Mariott remodel paint crew led by Carlos. Some examples of problems include: (1) removing and taking away doors to paint and then rehanging them without painting; (2) using the wrong type of paint on walls when we asked to match the same paint from the previous job by Mariott; (3) getting painted doors dirty with grit when taken off site for painting; (4) painting over door hardware or losing hardware when it was removed; (5) not prepping kitchen walls and counters correctly before painting. We had quite a time removing splattered varnish from our granite counter tops. The major problem though was the attempt to match the kitchen and laundry room cabinet finish to the one done by the Mariott group (with a different supervisor and different paint crew) a couple of years earlier on upstairs cabinets, which had the same original finish as those downstairs. The job was so botched that we had to have all new cabinet doors made and finished, along with removing the built up layers put on done by the Mariott crew on the existing cabinet structure. This took almost nine months to complete given repeated problems in trying to straighten it out. Essentially all of the problems that we encountered could be traced to the total lack of supervision by the Mariott lead on the project, Coulter Mariott. He rarely came by and when he did it was to haul off trash or just chat. We had to find all of the problems that came up. Unfortunately, we were told to leave the house for a couple of days when the cabinets were being refinished. The damage was already done to them when we returned. Had we been home, we probably could have avoided that disaster. But is that not what the person in charge of the project is supposed to do? We signed the contract for our work on February 23, 2013 and I am sad to say that it is not actually done, but we are done with Mariott. A cabinet door that was hung and rehung repeatedly to fix paint issues just fell off on August 19, 2014. I can't trust them to fix it correctly, so for now the door is resting on the floor. We planned to have the work completed during the summer of 2013 so the planning started in February. Unfortunately, no one at Mariott seems to understand planning so that nothing was ready to go at the start of June 2013. As of mid-August 2014, we will be looking for someone competent to finish up the odds and ends. Hindsight is 20/20, but if you are reading this, I wish we had been our own general contractor and used Angie?s list to find reputable sub-contractors who will do things right the first time. Perhaps other general contractors care about the quality of their work, but we did not see that in the Mariott Group.

Drove 3 miles-car overheated. Called AA immediately. Car cooled, radiator & reserve tank DRY! Anti-freeze added to radiator & reserve tank. Windshield washers were not working either.(had oil change 2 weeks ago, fluids full)Mon. 6/16 My husband & I both spoke to Hank-he was very apologetic. He said he didn t know how car was not checked after fluids drained, but it happens-they would fix it. Bring car back at earliest convenience. We added anti-freeze, car ran FINE for entire week (to/from work-10 miles each way, lunchtime/after work errands for 5 full, very hot days-NO PROBLEMS). Sat. 6/21 We returned car Fri night. Sat morning Kirk called-said fluids had NOT been drained-all were fine. He said he did a pressure test-the radiator gasket had a leak. Had Kirk show me leak. He refunded $10 spent on anti-freeze & handed me estimate -$180.24. Also, we saw windshield washer hose was disconnected (said it had just worn out) but he would fix it. He said, I m not saying that we didn t do a bad job, cause we did but mistakes happen & he d probably make 200 more mistakes this year. He said thermostat had to be removed to install the new part so they would replace it, too. We couldn't afford the repair & didn't think it was needed, it was not leaking-the car ran fine after we filled the radiator, no leak on garage floor. Kirk said, \"We'll take the money out of the deal & fix it.\" This bothered us, but we figured he knew what he was doing. I needed car for work Monday so we picked it up Sat night. On Mon 6/23-Driving to work, car was overheating has NEVER run above normal until tune up . Smell of anti-freeze was choking me-I turned AC off & rolled down windows. Also, a belt was squealing. I got to work-steam was coming from under hood. I looked under the hood and NO LEAK. While driving home, car overheated FOUR times in less that 8 miles. We got it to the shop, left a note call us before starting the vehicle. (Important: car ran perfectly until tune up . Oil is changed regularly and it has never had ANY leaking issues.) Tue 6/24-Kirk called-very agitated. I was VERY calm, polite-begging him to just please fix it. I asked him to not replace the part until he could determine that it was leaking. He said it was NOT AT ALL POSSIBLE that they messed up during tune-up. 15 min. later, shop owner called my husband, yelled at him-they did not mess car up-would not fix it, come get it immediately. If it had to be towed, fine but they were not touching it, he wanted it gone. We bought more anti-freeze, filled the radiator, & took it to dealer. Car was fine. After ten minutes of a service tech looking at it, we all concurred that AA didn't tighten the radiator cap properly, causing the problem. Dealer tech confirmed no leak. Car has been FINE since! Simple mistake like that could have cracked the engine block, thrown a rod, or any number of other things & I would have had no car! They could not admit that they might have done something wrong!"},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/tx/college-station/aggieland-automotive-reviews-458445.htm"},"position":8}]}

"When we purchased our home in 2017, there was already a crack across the top 2 segments of the driveway where that area had sunk quite a bit. Besides the cosmetic issue, we felt this subsidence was also a tripping hazard. After researching online and using Angi, I found GROUNDWORKS (formerly FSS: Foundation Support Specialists) who came out to give an estimate. Ricardo showed up on time with advanced warning of his ETA. He was thorough and left me with a color-coded bid. Some of the driveway and sidewalk leading to the front door were going to be lifted, and some parts stabilized using the foam injection method. Even though I received bids from 2 other companies, I chose GROUNDWORKS for their 5-year warranty and mid-level pricing. All companies were 4.5 stars or higher on both Google and Angi. On the job day, they arrived on time. The job was completed in about 2 hours. I am very happy with the results."

FAQs for structural engineering projects in College Station, TX
No, it’s not legal for unlicensed individuals to conduct structural calculations for buildings or building repairs. Not only do licensing requirements prevent DIYers from tackling this project, but mistakes can also be extremely dangerous and put your property and anyone inside or near it at risk of severe injury or even death. You should always hire a licensed and certified local structural engineer to make structural calculations.
Yes, all states require structural engineers to carry the proper license, with specifics determined by each state. You can use Angi’s state licensing tool to confirm that the structural engineer you’re considering holds the required licensing to tackle your job. Hiring an unlicensed structural engineer will not only cause issues with permits but it could also lead to an unsafe building. The cost of a professional, licensed, and experienced engineer is well worth the investment.
The process of hiring a structural engineer starts by finding reliable professionals in your area and comparing quotes from at least three of them. From there, you can narrow down your selection by asking some leading questions:
Do you have experience working in my specific area?
Do you have professional indemnity insurance?
What will your structural report cover?
Do you charge a flat fee for a structural report or by the hour?
How long have you been in business?
Do you have a list of customer references?
Structural engineers typically charge between $100 and $250per hour, but many jobs won’t be based on a per-hour fee. Instead, the structural engineer will offer a flat rate for the inspection and structural calculations. The flat rate for a structural engineer costs an average of around $550, but you could see prices ranging from $300 to $800, depending on the complexity of your project and how easy it is to access certain parts of your home for the inspection.
Whether you’re building a new home or building an extension on your existing property, you will likely need both a structural engineer and an architect. A structural engineer will determine what loads your foundation and framing can safely handle, and an architect will draw plans according to those structural calculations to simplify the building process. You can start by contacting a structural engineer near you, as many work alongside architects and can get all of the prep work done at once.
